A local old timer gave me an old raider amp to se if it worked (he never has used it). I hooked it up and all i get is about 25 watts carrier and about 90 watts swing. What tubes doe it use and whats the expected output? The tune knob works but the load does nothing... |

Cm3885,I believe the raider used 4 6jg6 in amp section and a 6aq5a in the keying section.the raider was good for about 300 pep driven mildly.actually one of the cleaner amps d&a made.if the load capacitor has no effect it sounds like the band switching coil has not been modified to operate on 11 meters.just quessing thats the band you checked it on. |

Today i took it apart and found that someone drove the load screw completely into itself. The guy that gave it to me said he had another guy try it out and i know the other guy knows nothing about tuning an tube amp.. I screwed it back out and now it will do every bit of 225 watts pep. Cool little driver amp but no SSB delay. Anyone know of a mod to add SSB dealy? The spot tune switch is no longer hooked up so that would make an excellent SSB delay switch. |
