Applejack Talkback is a feature that was designed to let you hear how you have the Echo set in the radio. Without it, the Echo feature is pretty much useless. Personally, I think both the Echo and Talkback features are useless since they do nothing to enhance the performance of the radio. The Echo feature is nothing more than a toy that most kids on the CB just can't live without. FCC type accepted CB radios do not come with echo in them because in reality, running a Echo along with your transmitted audio is illegal. Jeff. |

Applejack, Talkback is a Nice feature that has been added to a lot of radio's now, even the FCC type accepted radio's without echo. Talkback allows you to monitor your Modulation and sound that is going out. It is very handy in checking different Microphones on your radio to determine the Sound you are actually putting out. Some Microphone's sound Tinny, some Loud, some Basey. Without talkback you really have no idea what your Mic or voice sounds like. Also a very handy way to determine if you have any problem's with you microphone's such as breaking up or maybe a break in the cord or lose wire, or Overmodulated, that you would not be able to hear yourself without talkback. The Texas Ranger little TR-121CP 40 channel AM Only radio comes with it where you can turn it on or off and the Texas Ranger TR-696F SSB Base also comes with adjustable talkback. Some people just like to hear themselves. Shirley ~ 1st Sargant used the talkback to determine that for her the Silver Salute Desk Micropuone actually sound's more like her regular Voice than any other Mic she has tried on her 696F SSB Base. It also is handy if you are using a power mic as you can leave it on and determine when it is getting time to change the batteries. A lot of people do not have modulation meter's to use to see when their modulation is dropping off. Also Lowpowerhal has used Talkback when the condition's are bad on the cCEF net's to talk to himself. hehehe Lon Tech808

Applejack Relax my friend. That's what this forum is for--to learn. I was in the radio business for more than 30 years and on the air since 1966. And since that time, I've never stopped learning. Everyday, all of us here, except Lon, learns something new. He's still looking for the ON-OFF switch to his two cans and a string. His wife, the 1st Sargant, is years ahead of him. The questions you ask only show that you have an interest in radio communications and that you are trying to absorb as much information about it as possible. You came to the right place because we all help each other and we all "learn" from each other. You have questions? We have more answers than Radio Shack ever dreamed of. Jeff. |

JEFF, THAT IS NOT MY FAULT!!!!!!!!! You told me the ON switch was always on the BLUE can and the OFF Switch was always on the RED can. My cans are both PURPLE and I still can't find them. STRING?????????????? You never told me I needed STRING! No wonder the darn thing's don't work. You told me they were the HC (Handi Can) Model's and I thought they were STRINGLESS. You nerver told me I needed antennas on them. Oh Well, I will keep looking. The 1st Sargant just keep laughing. Lon |

Jeff, as Gomer Pyle used to say " for shame for shame for shame" !!!! So, shame on YOU. How can you lead Lon down that path of two cans and a string???? And then tell him that they are different colors! "EVERYBODY" knows that there is a REAL switch on that contraption. The secret here Lon is as follows: and you can go ahead and send me the money in advance! WAX!! That is right Lon. Just wax the string and the cans will work every time! Guaranteed in writing. No batteries, no electricity to go out. Now how soon can I expect my money? And you better not send it via Buzzard Airlines either. Keith in Atlanta |

Applejack There is no dumb questions, the only way you can learn is to ask. I have a modulation meter and run at 60% most of the time, But with talk back i can tell if overdriving or peaks start to distort.( also if you have low contacts on the net, you can log more. hehehe That silly rabbit did it again.) (thanks LON) But Honest just keep asking questions we all learn from the answers. As the old saying gos Never to old to learn. Good question Applejack. Hal |
