Lon this makes no sense at all, just something else for people to complain about. What is the harm of asking someone to e-mail you, e-mail me and we can discuss it further. Rich |

I think lons point may have been geared toward selling things which were asked about in a post. Like someone asking about a 257 and someone wanting him to email him because he had one for sale.

It is very easy, if someone want's to e-mail you they can click on your name and your Profile will come up and then click on your e-mail address to send you a note. If you want to e-mail someone you can click on their name and their Profile will come up and click on their e-mail address and e-mail them. If they choose to list their e-mail address in their Profile. The Post is Very Simple & Easy to Understand! I do not see anything in the post for people to complain about. NOTE! Also if you check your Profile's you will see that the NEW FEATURE below has been added to your Profile. " Click Here to send a private message to " THIS NEW FEATURE MAKE'S IT VERY EASY TO PM SOMEONE DIRECT! Lon Tech808 |

This is getting ridiculous!!!! What if a member has a question for a certain induvidual about something that person has that another member has a question about and that person doesnt have their email in their profile? This has happednt o me from time to time so i have been forced to post up my email so the other party can contact me for what i have to ask them. And ya know, maybe what i have to say or ask doesnt need to be posted for everyone and thier brother to see! I agree with the others things on this forum are getting out of hand over dumb stuff.... It seems that the moderators are leaning towards total control of eveything and anything and anyone that posts on here.

Forum Member's, The Post is a Re-Post of one that was made 6 or 7 months ago. It is the Same Rule, Same Post, Nothing New. The Copper Tech's and Moderator's are Required to Follow the EXACT same Copper Forum Rule's as you the Copper Forum Member's are. We DO NOT make the rule's. No Problem's here, I agreed to abide by them when I joined the Copper Forum. As I am a GUEST here on the Copper Forum, I will gladly follow the Rules that are set by my Host during my visit's here, as I am just a visitor. If, I ever decide that I do not wish to follow the Rule's set forth by my Host (Copper Electronic's) then I will Quietly Leave. It is like when I go to visit friend's at there house. If they say No Smoking allowed then I do not smoke, If they say No swearing then I do not swear. I think it is called RESPECT for your HOST. Lon Tech808

Lon, The post may have been made months ago, but it was not adhered to, why the sudden urge to do so, was there a problem? As to e-mail in profiles, many do not contain profiles, as a lot of people are trying to keep the spam down. As far as the forum goes, the people here ARE the forum, Copper started it, for which we are grateful, but if we were not here, it would not exist at all. We are here because there is useful information, and in payment for the information we obtain, we buy from Copper if they have what we need, fair exchange, right? We need each other, copper forum would not exist without the members. We are all adults here, this forum has enough rules and regs to abide by without adding additional restrictions, or enforcing ones that were never inforced before. It is about enjoyment, more restrictions=less enjoymet. Rich |

Without rules, I believe things deteriorate quickly. In my opinion, the Copper forum rules are just and acceptable. It is a small price to pay for a family friendly forum such as this without the cursing and negative attitude so common on other web forums. Ask yourself this- Why am I on this forum? I asked myself and found out why. This forum is not a low-class pit of hate like others. I could take my advise and comments anywhere I choose. I choose this forum because it has rules which keep it civil and fun for all of us. I will not go anywhere else. |

This has gotten blown out of proportion. The reason for this rule is to stop other dealers from advertising here. If a question is asked and a dealer answers with "email me" he has successfully posted his advertisement for everyone from then on to see. If we allow other posters who aren't posting the "email me" as a form of advertisement to do so the dealer complains that we aren't being fair. If you have information such as where to buy something and the place is a direct competitor of Coppers you can email the person. If the person has his email address hidden send them a private message. This gets the persons question answered and avoids our problem with dealers trying to advertise here. This forum was created and paid for to help Copper customers get information and help about their hobby. You will notice there are no ads anywhere on the forum. If this forum was only about Copper selling more product we would put ads everywhere like you see on QRZ's forum. There have been many times that a forum member has asked "which product is best" and someone has answered with a product that Copper doesn't carry. We haven't blocked any of those posts. We want our forum members to be informed. The information here flows both ways. We(Copper) have started carrying numerous new products because of good reviews by forum members. There have been many times in the past when we have tried to make things easier for forum members by requesting things be done in a certain way and have run into stiff opposition. Take for instance when we asked members to try and post their questions under the appropriate heading. We made this request to help members who had the same question find the answer more readily. It was not meant to be a hardship on forum members. We view the forum like a library. How hard would it be to find the book you were looking for if all the books were in one huge pile instead of on shelfs and categorized? Posting everything in the "Open Forum" section is the same as having one huge pile of books. All the techs and moderators except myself are volunteers. When they spend an hour wrinting and rewriting an answer to someones question and then another forum member asks the same question a week later they don't want to have to write the answer again. We have tried to nudge the questioner to search the board for the answer first before asking the question. We have no problem when a member can't find the answer to either point him to the previous post or answer it again. Think about it the less time a Copper Tech spends answering the same question again the more time he can spend answering a new question, writing a review or working on a new article. This request was not meant as a rebuke to any forum member it was only meant to get more output out of the resources we have. No one wants to have to follow rules but they are necessary to a useful forum. How many times when you are talking on your radio do you wish that others would act courteously? What if there were no personal insults? What if everyone didn't talk at the same time? What if no one played non stop music during the Sunday net? How much more enjoyable would your radio experience be? This is what we are trying to achieve here. It's easy to complain about the rules and the people having to enforce them but they are necessary. Please understand we want this to be an enjoyable experience but... We would not be able to continue to offer an ad free forum if we allowed our competitors to use our resources and hard work to advertise their products. We also can not allow the trouble maker to hijack our forum the same way they do the airwaves. People will always complain about rules, heck I complain about them as much as the next guy. I complain about standing in line. I complain about waiting at a stop light. I complain about these things even though I know they keep things orderly and safe. Tech808 gets a lot of the heat because I have asked him to help me make sure the rules are followed. He doesn't like the job but has been willing to help me none the less. If there is a rule you don't like please don't blame him. If you want someone to blame, I'm your man. The buck stops here. Thanks for reading and I hope I have at least explained why we do the things we do even though you may not agree with them. |

Sinner, Is the customer always right if what he wants harms another customer? Not every member is a customer should we only answer questions from members who have purchased from us? Should the rights of the volunteer Techs be secondary to the customers rights? |

Bruce, We already have that option / feature in everyone's profile. It is the Member's personal choice if they wish to list an e-mail address in their profile. (IT IS NOT REQUIRED) A Forum Member can also Block PM's from other Forum member's if they choose to, by checking the Box in front of the Sentence below in your profile. Do not send me "Private Message" e-mails from other board users All of these option's are controlled by the Forum Member's. And it is the Forum Member's who control 100% of the information that they wish to have made avialiable for other Forum Member's or Visitor's to view. If you and other Forum Member's have not checked your profile area in a while, you will find a lot of NEW Feature's that the New forum has to offer in the Profile area that the old forum did not have. Lon, You said above: ************** It is the Member's personal choice if they wish to list an e-mail address in their profile. (IT IS NOT REQUIRED) ************** I tried to not put in an email address and got the following: ************* Save Profile Changes You entered an invalid e-mail address. The changes you have made to your profile, if any, have not been saved. Please contact Forum Master if this problem persists. Discus Pro 4.00.6 Copyright © 2002, DiscusWare, LLC, all rights reserved Perl 5.006001/solaris *********** So an email address is required, did you mean I could choose to hide it? |

Barracuda, When Tech808 said you can choose not to "list" your email address he meant that it would not show up on your profile "list" if someone viewed it. It would be impossible to register members or verify members with forgotten passwords without an email address. If you choose to hide your email address then the only people who have access to it are me(Forum Master) and yourself. Even the forum techs and moderators don't have access to your email address. We haven't used any forum members email address for anything other than forum business. And we won't! The two choices in your profile that Tech808 is referring to are under the section Preferences Do not display my real e-mail address with my profile Do not send me "Private Message" e-mails from other board users

If the owners of this site have some rules they want me to follow for the access to the information and friendly banter then I will gladly comply or I can move on.If it is my nickel then maybe I have some say but if I am using someone else's nickel then I say thank you ! Thanks to Cooper for this forum and all the time and money invested . |
