The Icom 781 is the best IMO. Actually there is no real answer to this question cuz it is all based on personal pref. applied to what YOU are looking for in a radio. One mans junk is anothers treasure. |

I guess the best radio is the one that I am talking on at the time. As they all have different feature's, I love them all! Now Favorite Radio is a different topic. Lon Tech808 |

Radios ARE a matter of what you need ..... One of the longest produced radios is the FT-840 and SHORTEST produced was a FT-100 or 100D. Many good radios are out there although one should AVOID long out of production units like ATLAS CLEGG HALICRAFTERS..... Just TRY and get parts. If you want MY opinion in the 500-900 dollar range there are no bad radios PERSONLY i like the ft-840 as a hf base but several DC-DAYLIGHT units like the IC-706, FT-857 and kenwood ts-50 hf radios are well worth looking into. AVOID USED RADIOS unless your VERY shure of what your buying. |

Yes, both Bruce and myself learned a hard lesson on E-Bay buying. Buyer beware on used radio equipment. Yankee |

I love my Kenwood TS 850 S it is the best ham style radio I have ever owned as far as ease of use, and durability. The old Yaesu 101 has louder audio though. |
