This is more of a question about durablity and ability to survive in all types of weather. I've heard of big stick and antron 99 being up for 15+ years, but does anyone have an Imax 2000 that's been up since they first started making the Imax 2000?

Dunno bout the I maxx but down the steet there is an old big stick up on a tower that been up for about 25 years.. The guy no longer uses it but its up and 100% intact!!! |

Mine has been up 5 years. But the two top sections have been replaced, as the winds here in Oklahoma can do a job on the threads between the top and middle sections. The two top sections came from my closest neighboring club member who had his tower fall on him, braking his hip and broke the bottom section of the I-Max, close to four years ago now. He has since fixed the two top sections from mine, and still has them if any of the locals needs them. Yankee |

Corncob CEF166 has had his Imax2000 up for a little over 2 years now with NO PROBLEM's.
He also has the GPK Kit on his.
He lives less than 1/8 mile from me and has had 2 inches of ice on it and sustained winds of over 60 to 70mph last fall & winter and 50-60mph winds just this past week for over 48 hours.
Still working GREAT! and he feels it is the Best Antenna he has ever owned in the last 30 year's.

Lets sea I have had my Imax2000 up for over two years with no problems. I really thought the top section was toast a couple times this year with wind and ice but it surived. I have a picture of the top section bent 90 degrees with ice. It is windy here and if you have one of these antennas you have to get used to the "dance" it does in windy conditions because of it's length. Best antenna I've ever had? Not sure but I think my old Penatrator500 (Hygain) might have been a better antenna. In my opnion it's hard to out do a good cut metal antenna. Do I like the Imax, you bet. By far the best stick antenna I have ever run. By da way I have had a Antron99 up at the beach 20 (Fenwick Island, De. Right on the coast) and it has taken a wipping. However it will not hang with the Imax2000 proformance wise. &3's

I have had my IMAX 2000 up for over two years also without problems. It survived two separate tropical storms when I lived in Florida, and I thought if it was gonna break, it would then. That antenna was whipping back and forth like a (fishing) fly rod, real brutal like but it stayed together. I talked skip while it was doing that during one storm (the one without lightning) and I could not even tell it was moving. Signals stayed solid although it went from horizontal to vertical and on and on continuously.
I have dropped it three times erecting it here by myself and it's still in good shape, although the GPK bracket got all bent up. I hammered it back in shape and it's currently installed again. Now I have assistance when mounting it. The fall was always from 25 ft or higher but woods, trees and brush did ease the fall.

It has been almost exactly 2 years. I did not coat the antenna with anything. I plan to pull it down this summer and see how it did. We had some nasty storms blow through and the winds hit almost 70 MPH at the building here. The Imax looked like it was a gonner. Somehow, it still stands!
I have a Silvertone tube type AM/SW radio hooked up to it that I listen to in my office. |

Had mine up for over 4 years. It stands at 58 ft. Had winds of over 70 mph two weeks ago and everything is fine. |

say hey mike, my imaxhas been up going on 5 years.
its seen 4 winds of 70 to 80mph, and a mico mini tornado that wraped 3 5inch limbs of an elm tree around the trunk.!! had to cut them out at 4 to 5 foot leanths to get them out of the tree!!and like a few others, in the winter, seen it transmite horizanial from the ice build up on it, lol.. had both the 99, and 5/8s maco, the imax is still here?? lol rest have been sold or gave away!! really like the imax!! even use one while out camping with the r/v.. hope this adds to your list of things, lol |
