Another problem fixed!! Have an Astron RS-20a PS, everytime I keyed up, it shut down the voltage on the PS, leaving the power light on on the PS, but the radio would shut off, if left in that suspended animation for 10 minutes or longer, the heat sink on the PS would get hot but never blow out the fuse..
Called Astron, told to solder a 0.1uF capacitor on the outer 2 legs of the rectifier thats on the board, rectifier has a heat sink on it and has 3 legs. Now that problem is gone too!
Just wanted to pass on a good tip!

Cool, another case of a self-oscillating rectifier/regulator circuit. It is always important in high RF environments to place decoupling caps as close to the rectifiers as possible to prevent self-oscillation. This is also important on the feedback loop for the regulator's voltage and current circuits. |
