I have a 5 ft section below the antenna that is not connected to the tower (mast). I did connect two ties to the antenna boom to help with strain of the weight of the coax on the way down. It allows the antenna to swing 360 degrees and does not hang up. From there down the tower it is tied about every 10 ft. |

I pulled my coax down the mast, tied down with cable ties, stopped about 2 foot from the neck of the tower and made a half loop with the coax at the tower neck.My mast drops through the tower to a rotor on a plate. My half loop probably sticks away from the tower about a foot and half. I had a friend check while I rotated the beam to make sure the coax did not pull tight as it moved.Good to go.2 grounding rods on the tower legs. Some guys say to take the coax to the gound then into the house. If anyone has an explanation let me know.My coax goes into the attic, then down the wall in the office. No tvi and I have an earth ground in the office but I also do not run power. |

Mines set up like yours. I have my coax going from the beams down the tower and then loops for the turning radius and into the attic and into the radio room.. Plus ground rods at the base of the tower for added protection. I use 2 rotor bearings on plates above my ham 4 kinda overkill but they work... |

My Set up is Beams mounted 9 feet above top of tower, then Rotor Thrust bearing mounted at bottom of Top section of tower. Coax loop for antenna and then coax running down out side of leg of tower with UV Wire Ties. Then 25' down 4' stand off for 2 Meter Antenna, and Ground Plane. Mast pipe running down to Rotor Mounted at Roof Level. With NO Weight on Rotor. That way if I need to remove rotor for any work it make's it easy. Unbolt rotor coller and leave on antenna and remove rotor. Then Coax run's last 12' inside of 2 1/2 inch White Plastic PVC Pipe with Elbow and drain on bottom running into house. I use Three 10' Ground rod's with one attached to each leg of tower and all three legs tied together. Coax from Antenna is connected to Poly Phaser's and grounded to a Separate Ground rod that I have less than 5 feet from Radio Equipment outside of window and then ran to radio room. It might be OVERKILL but It sure make's Me and the Insurance Company feel better. Lon Tech808 |

Hey Tech808, I came across (back in 87) a commercial installation for a Maritime rescue group (in Australia) that had a 65ft street lamp stand as as tower sitting about 5ft, at the base, from the radio room. only grounding was the bolts imbedded in the concrete. A disaster just waiting to happen. |

Mount it above the Tip by 2 or 3 feet above the tallest element of the beam. Mount A99 on Top and then lower Mount Beam and use GOOD Heavy Mast Pipe for top section of mast pipe. |

Depending on Which Beam you choose, the Side & Back Rejection will pretty much not make it a good Ground Plane antenna. With mine I can hear Local's from the side's but there signal is Cut by almost 2/3rd's. If I have mine pointed at them I can get an S-10 or S-20 and if they are off of the Back of the Beam's maybe an S-3 to S-5 and if they are 10 miles away I might be able to hear them if it is REALLY QUIET, but Barely with no S meter reading. Even with Beam's I HIGHLY RECOMMEND a Good Ground Plane Antenna as it is a BIG PLUS to hear those other signal's or weak signal's out there and then swing / switch the beam's to them. Lon Tech808 |

Pp1616, yes, the beam will act as a ground plane for the A99 mounted above it. |
