Hello. I turned on my 2980 today and heard a pop and sizzle and lo and behold i lost my receive audio. It receives and transmits and has plenty of modulation but i cant hear a thing. What went south on me and what do i need to look for as far as bad parts???? |

i would check the audio ic 1st. modulation does not depend on the audio ic in this radio so your modulation will not be changed in any way if the audio ic goes out. the main coupling cap could also be bad. i'm not sure of its pcb # right off hand. what main board does this 2980 use? |

181, not being smart, but i have no idea of what your question is actually asking. you can call the audio ic the audio amp if you prefer, they are one and the same. |

No, no, no, SS8541, I made my post before yours appeared and I offered the same idea of the audio amp/audio IC (same difference). I put the SS8541? after it as if to ask your input. Unfortunately, even though we are moderators we STILL have to have the forummaster approve our posts in the Open Forum. Or at least I do anyway. Been like this since day one for me. When I seen this today I thought too, that it looked as if I was being condescending. I guess your post was approved JUST before mine, hence the weird situation here. |

I think i have it pinned down to what it is.. The audio chip is blown.. I called my tech and he said thats whats out or something in the audio chain is blown.. I think my radio took a voltage spike.. Ill take it to my local radio shop the guy can tell me whats really going on.... |
