Are the high pass filters from Rat shack any good for upset neighbors? Would like to offer my neighbors something.

Worked in my case those arnt to bad for radio shack, Paul what you want is a low pass filter bencher ya1 is a good one. I've used the johnson the drake and bencher with same results. A good one is not cheap though. |

OK LOW PASS GOES ON CB SET High pass on tv set so if you are going to filter a neighbors tv you want high pass ON THE TV if its comming through a stero or cordless phone you need to use beeds on all speaker or phone line leads....... |

Ground your cb. Use a low pass filter between the radio and the antenna lead. Use a high pass filter on the tv. Use a high grade,low loss coax on the radio. Check your coax connections. Replace any old connectors.Get as many toroid chokes as necessary to cut out the interference on the telephone. No poor quality amps either.Keep it legal. Did I mention ground the radio properly???

I have a Vectronics 1500W model for the set-up in the house through the COPPER KL-500 and a COPPER 1000W model for the set-up in the garage/shop through the Galaxy 350. Both work well. The COPPER TVI cost $23; the other one was $70. Should have got two COPPER TVI's...

Mike,
I have all of my MTI - TVI Filter's connected directly to the Transmitter's via a Double Male Connector (SEE LINK BELOW) then Coax Connected to it going to switch box.

Or Mount as close to Transmitter as Possible.

Thanks for the good information. I just keep learing. I'm not having a major problem or anything but you know how it is--I never know when I'm going to get the bug to buy another anplifier. This time it will be tube.
BTW, I really found what I was looking for in a radio and antenna system with the DX2517 and Thunder 8xb. High quality and fun to operate.

I've read & appreciate all the post on here but I've tried almost everything yall have mentioned.My situation is some mystery to me I've got about every filter known to man & I'm grounded good.I have no t.v.i barefooted but when I turn the juice on I come through my tv & my phone not to mention dimming the street lights outside my house. I can also key up in my mobile (amp in line)outside a couple of blocks away & it comes through my tv also.I'm to my witts end here |

I run a B&W filter.Barker Williamson low pass model 425 in line. Best filter they made. This is a low pass filter. You have some stray rf some where! Bad ground maybe? And check your coax it dose go bad , also the jumpers. Also some amps are dirty as far as no filtering.Most of the time its a grounding problem.Hope this helps. Good luck |

Just my1 1/2 cents.
If the TVI Low pass filter isn't grounded to the shack ground buss it can't do it's job. As said before connect filter directly to radio run good jumper [shielding] to amp and another filter directly to amp.
I use a Balum between last item in line and the antenna.

I have been talking with salesman at Palomar-engineers.com. I purchased quite a few split- bead Ferrites. They come in different sizes for coax. After receiving them I placed 4 of them at the coax end just below my antenna. He said this would stop downward radiation of RF which creates tvi. You know he was right. I was tearing my neighbor up before putting these on and now she watches CSI in peace. Worked for me, you might try it. |

You used to be able to purchase them at radio shack not sure about now though. I have my own stash from robbing old transmitter radio stations. |

They are on the west coast so allow for time differance. Catalogs are also available, but if your coax has a connector on it you will need split bead. The split bead can also be used on power cords close to inlet into an am/fm radio or t.v.. They are sized in 1/4"-1/2"-6/10"-or 3/4" for your cable.

They are about $2.50 each for the ones 1/4" and 3/8".
The 1/2" ones are $6.50

To All,
I feel a correction of mis understanding is in line.
When I said TVI filter to Amp I was refering to the output side between Amp and antenna coax. Thus, that would place it last in the RF line.
My reasons for connecting directly to the Amp via a double male is the reduction of the need for a jumper and thus reducing the possible jumper causing problems.
Hope I have made myself clear this time.
