A long time ago I was going to purchase a ground radial kit for my Antron 99 but decided to experiment with a cheaper idea.I went to the local dollar store and bought 150 feet of #14 speaker wire for $3.oo and cut 6 pieces of copper wire at 10 feet apiece. I took a large piece of wire and wrapped it arround the metal just below the twin tuning rings at the bottom and slanted each wire almost horizontal and insulated each end.My antenna is 12 feet up off the ground and with the radials I didn't see not a bit of movement from my S.W.R. meter with 35 watts in.With this fix my SWR's are flat all across the 40 channel C.B. band. Not bad for $3.00.J.C.B.

Vernonnott,it looks a little bit ugly and recently I added three more pieces and I definitely noticed a drastic reduction in ground noise.I have lots of trees here in Oakland Park,FL,and I have the radials attached with rope to close by trees insulated on the ends of course.I would like to here from others who experiment with Antron 99 improvements.I am planning for my next antenna an idea I gave one night to a local ham friend of mine to make a full wave ground plane. 73's. Well Jerry : Maybe you can sell some of your inventive ideas to Solorcon and collect some royalties.Nothing ventured - nothing gained.

i know its not much info but i just wanted to say i did notice a diff

Well ya see guys I had a T.V antenna on my mast. I just said what the hey I put my antron 99 right above it. It help and I have made some contacts Sidney Au, and Kona Hawaii, and some small town in Italy. I have taken my T.V antenna down and a imax 2000 went up. And the reception and D.Xing droped off. I don't like it I am going to put my T.V ant back up under my imax. And see if that helps. Oh S.W.R was a perfect match. Across all bands 24 mhz to 27 mhz. 73's take care #111 So. Minnesota land of 10,000 lakes or 1 million swamps depends on how you look at it. (LOL)Just look for a old T.V antenna does not look strange at all. Looks kinda normal.
