I may be opening a can of worms here, but I have noticed virtually all coax supplied with CB antennas comes in an 18ft length. Is there something "magical" about a coax length of 18ft? I only need about 10ft.
THANKS, MikeB

the lenght of the coax only NEEDS to be as long
as needed for it to reach the antenna to the radio
or whatever else ya have in line.less is better as far as line loss goes.(power lost in coax)
alot of company's that make antennas give ya 18ft
of coax so ya have enuff to get it routed where
ever ya need to go.18 ft is 1/2 phyical lenght of a full wave lenght on 27 mhz but that got nothing to do with electrical wavelenght of coax.which is also not a big deal unless you are a perfectionist
and cut it to 1/2 electrical wave and that just insures a more acurate swr reading using cheaper
meters.i know a fella that has 1 foot of coax on
his mobile rig, radio mounted to top of cab like in semi's and antenna mount was a disco disk
through the top roof of cab. he has good swr,no
line loss, and gets out very well. there is no magical numbers just what it takes to go from here to there.
