I have a Galaxy 66DX that i am extreamly happy with. But, it doesn't have SSB. I am thinking of getting a radio just for SSB. Can the forum members please advise. Also is there a way to add SSB to my Galaxy. |

Whatever you get, make sure the receive is coupled to the transmit.
I'd suggest an HF rig. (Yaesu, Kenwood) etc. They are designed primarily for ssb..
BTW I don't know of any procedure to add sideband to an AM radio. That doesn't mean it's not possible, just not practical. |

If you want a REAL SSB radio get either a Lincoln or a RANGER AR 3500. They dont make the 3500 anymore but you can find them in good cond used on Ebay from time to time.. All I can say about the Lincoln and the 3500 is they R-O-C-K On SSB!!! AM well they work ok (the 3500 talks really well on AM but the receiver is too sensitive for the AM noise level and mods are the onoy way to correct this) but they are tailored for SSB use..... |

I agree with Barefoot and CM3885, get a Lincoln.I own one, and it's the best SSB rig I have owned.I think you'll be pleased with it's performance.

can we get an amen from the congregation heck yeah!!! 2510/lincoln the way to go!!!!!!! now that is a talkin radio, the ranger is not a bad radio either and i have heard good things from the magnums!!! been a while freinds glad to be back

your 66 is a fine radio for am. But if you want ssb. look no farther than copper for their Lincoln and have them do the 11 meter mod for you. I have had mine for a few weeks now and can say it's the best radio I own. my 2970 is good on ssb too but the Licoln is a hard one to de-throne when it comes to DX-SSB. |

I would advise a Magnum Delta Force over the Lincoln for a variety of reasons. I guess I should start out by saying that I owned a Lincoln (HR2510, same thing exactly) so I know at least half of what I'm saying.
First, seeing that you've got a DX66 already indicates that you might like echo, analog meters instead of an LCD digital one, variable power and variable mic gain. Well, the Deltas got it all and the Lincoln doesn't. The Lincoln's mic gain is a hi/low button. No variable power, a couple of "bars" as an indicator. And, even modified, it NEVER had the AM audio punch of the 148's or the 2000GTL I had. My HR2510's AM audio was very nice, broadcast quality, but it couldn't cut through the mud at times. The Lincoln is an excellent radio, don't get me wrong, in fact, its one of, if not the best at what it does relative to what's offered these days. But, keep in mind that the Magnum Delta Force is according to overwhelming posts on this board and others, pretty much the same and then some. Supposed to be very nice on SSB and loud as heck on AM. It's got all the stuff you may like on your 66, plus the best of the Lincoln/HR2510. In addition, it has split frequency and a few other niceties as well not found in the Lincoln. At least not stock. Magnum Delta costs less and may put out more power too. Well, that's my 2 cents.
PS. The SDM-1000 base mic was incredible on the HR2510, although not the loudest. Talk about professional sounding. Wow. Also tried a D104. Louder, much.. but not as smooth. |
