Hey CM3885, This is the radio I'm thinking about purchasing for my truck too. So far what I have read on the net about this radio is all positive. Does anyone out there have anything to add? |

CM 3885, I have had my 2970 DX for about 3 1/2 years now. I love it and have used it for over 500, 000 miles of OTR Driving with only one problem and that was MY FAULT! I had to send it to Tech 307 to use a ULTRA SOUND CLEANER on it due to my Smokeing in the truck for over 3 years. Not much room for Smoke to get out, Driving every day with windows up. AM/SSB / FM GREAT, POWER GALORE, ALL THE BELLS & WHISTLES. Like my 2995DX only in the Mobile Version. I Love it, Recommend it, Praise it, Very durable, Reliable, OUTSTANDING RADIO. Since I am no longer able to be on the road, it serves as a back up here for a base. I have it mounted under shelf on work bench, that way I can still Talk & Listen with out getting up and going to next bench to talk on base. Guess I am just getting old & lazy Here is a Link to it: http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodR10-10010+ THIS IS A VERY GOOD PRICE ON IT! When the 1st SARGANT got mine for my birthday, she paid over $500.00 for it. And it is well worth the money to have a 10/11/12 Meter radio, that need's nothing except a good Peak & Tune & Opened for 11 meter. Just my thought's. Lon Tech808 |

I couldn't agree more with 808... By far, this is the best radio for the money, followed by the 2950dx... And yes the Bases would be the 2985 and 2995 for the best buy base in my opinion... Just simply a awsome radio with fetures galore.. |

I'm using a 2970 DX on a 12 volt power supply as a base station. The receive and transmit are both outstanding. I also use a 2970 DX in my 1967 Ford pickup truck. The ANL and NB stop all the static produced by the truck's ignition and charging systems. I get the best receive of any radio I have ever had in that truck. ;) |

Does the new 2970 DX have that new low profile heatsink of does it still use the larger one that was on the older 2970s? |

CM 3885, OK I have your answer for you! The NEW RCI / Ranger 2970DX can come either way. With the old Big Heavy Heat Sink or the New one Smaller in the case like some of the New Galaxy's have. It appears that Ranger is still making them with the OLD & the NEW Heat Sinks. So, it all depends which one's they ship out and no one knows until you open the box. Guess they still have some of the older Heat Sinks & Cases to use up. Hope this helps some. Lon Tech808 |
