I'm a recent victim of ebays witch-hunt on illegal radios for trying to sell my HR2600. I have been thrown off ebay for dealing in radios that can be converted. What radio can't be converted?? has anyone else had this problem and what did they do about it?? |

I had a similar problem with Ebay, TWICE! As many people who know me here can attest, I do not operate illegal radios. That is simply not my nature. However, I could not convince the Ebay 'cops' of this. The radio I was selling was completely legal. I got my auction cancelled twice, and the reasons for cancellation were 'For selling scanners capable of receiving cellular frequencies'. What?? This was an un-modified two-way radio. My solution? I do not give Ebay my business any longer. |

I've seen plenty of Presidents go on eBay. Just list it properly as an Amateur Transceiver and don't mention "extra channels" or modifications. Interested buyers will email you if they want to know. |

I had a Ranger RCI-2950 radio which I listed it under the CB listing to sell. They kicked me off and gave me 1-warning and if I did it again, I would get kicked off permentally. What I should have done is list the radio under the Ham-Radio listing. I later sold the radio on Ebay and everything was ok. Ebay does follow FCC regulations as best they can. Any radio that has power or frequency modifications in 11 or 10 Meter etc, might get kicked off Ebay. |

Im not sure if your the same person or not, but when i notice the words, cb, mods, or peak and tune, and it's a ten meter radio, i usualy will send a email warning them that alot of hams can boot it off of ebay.. This has happened to me as well and was a learining experience, so i pass the word so if and when it happens, the key words can be left out, and they can sell it without the boot..... |

No, I was smart enough not to use any of those words. I have bought & sold about 12 HR2510's and 2950DX's on ebay. What roasts me is any of the radios can be converted and people can advertise a souped up grant splatterbox and get away with it. I can see getting spanked by ebay, but they have banned me forever. You can go on ebay and sell dildos and other "toys" and thats OK, maybe I was in the wrong market!! |

they are kind of spastic. I saw a CObra 2000 w/DigiScan get booted within about 12 hours of listing, but at the same time there are two others that mention having extras and they are still there. I think eBay has somebody checking listings who just arbitrarily excercises his powers on a whimsical basis. |

GEESE all this about booting radios the ebay ax welder is so inept that 23ch sets are sold all the time .....vololines a old 465 mhz REGEN cb set are commonly sold YOU CANT EVEN TURN IT ON WITHOUT BREAKING THE LAW! any while we are at it how about all the out of country sets being sold to americans??? .... i guess that 80 ch fm set is a sought after COLECTABLE .... someone needs to set rules that are in writing and stick to them OR LET THE BUYER BEWAIR.... At this point the bottom line seems who did you tick off????? |

I'm waiting for someone to organize a "backlash" campaign and start submitting the same kind of questionable complaints about stuff listed as "ham" equipment. As technically unsophisticated as the Ebay cops are, any spurious complaint about "That's really a bootleg CB amplifier called the Drake L4-B" should, in theory, get a bunch of otherwise innocent hams booted off and sent packing the same way. I remember someone on UseNet a year or so back with a username of "RattingIllegalKeyClownsOffEbay", or something like that. I believe most of the damage at Ebay is done by a small cadre of self-appointed "Inquisitors" who scan new listings and make the complaints, based on their own personal agendas. Odds are that this handful of folk have very little to do with selling on Ebay. Odds are that a "backlash" action, filing bogus complaints about otherwise legit ham gear would nail everybody BUT the HolierThanThou complaint cadre. The fact that Ebay is astronomically short of the expertise to evaluate "RattingOut" complaints is the reason that they accept every one of them at face value, no matter how stupid. This provides enormous leverage to the complainers, way out of proportion to the power they should be allowed to exercise. Kinda like the patent law system. Gives you the right to shut down whomever you like, but little else. In my daydreams, I list a perfectly benign CB accessory on Ebay, point out in large type "This accessory is NOT a transmitter NOR an amplifier, so the FCC does NOT have authority over who sells it. But it's NOT legal to transmit on a CB that has this installed in it." Then, in smaller type, dare them to file a bogus complaint, saying "Expect a court summons if you file a bogus complaint about this one! The Summons has 'John Doe' written on it now, but we'll subpoena your real name from Ebay and serve you a summons with YOUR name on it". Then again, in the real universe I would never violate my religious convictions and make some lawyer rich JUST because someone feels compelled to be a jerk. My wife says it's a good thing we aren't rich, because the lawyers would just get it all anyway. She's probably right. The only vote you get is with your feet..... leading you to some other auction venue. Exercise it. It's still a free market if you can say "NO!", and make it stick. 73 |

IT boild down to this the problem is the end user should be held not ebay and if you buy it you pay the price if you sell it and you not supose to you pay the price .... what do you think?? |

I think this is still America. You can buy and sell anything you want . It is not against the law to own a ham radio. It is against the law to transmit on one without a license. |

barefoot not quite true you cant own a auotmatic gun and grow wacky weed but i agree with you the final fault goes with the user ..... if it was ME and the FCC was serious about CB i would fine the user much more that the $10000 that is top fine now but it will not happen. Sadly ham radios are being sold the same way i was amazed by a add last year for 2 yaseu 440 mobles the person in rhe add stated " we used them from a car to out motor home and got many miles only a few times did some ham ask for a call " and GMRS radios are almost without control now a real mess. well there is my 2 cents |

Ehh O.....K..... I feel the same way as barefoot. Its entirelty up to the end user to use the radios(or whatever) as they are intended to be used.. Or you can do another thing if you dont want to be hassled and run the risk of being narked on to the FCC by some jerkoff Ebay sensor nazi as a seller or buyer simply, DONT DEAL WITH EBAY!!! That simple!!!! Most everything CB radio related i buy is mostly old collectible gear like Turner mikes, old CB magazines, Avanti antennas and literature and, older Cobra CB radios. As far as i am concerned about the legal/illegal Ebay can stick it in their ear! |

Thanks, I know how to list the radios . I did not say extra channels or modified. My problem was I listed under CB instead of ham. I've put the same radio on yahoo and have had only 23 views in 2 days compared to about 90 views on ebay. Funny that people sold art stolen from museums in Bagdad on ebay and got away with it!! |
