Boxcar, As Bruce says, a Direct Hit or one VERY CLOSE, WILL GET YOU! Check out the link below: http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodC70-05014+ or if you have a COPPER Catalog check them out on the Connectors page. I run a Six Radio & Six Antenna Switch and have one on EACH outlet for Antennas going to it's own Ground Rod less than 5 feet from radios. I also have each leg of tower grounded to it's own Ground Rod and then I have all three legs tied together. BUT!!! When Storms are coming I Still Unhook Coax and place ends in a Glass Jar. A lot EASIER and CHEAPER than trying to replace all of the Equipment. In the past a CLOSE Ground strike has wiped out our Fridge, Freezer, TV's, Garage door opener's,Alarm System and Security Cameras and Recorders. Last one cost us/insurance around $20.000. For the very REASONABLE PRICE that COPPER has them, they are well worth the added protection. Not like the 20 year old one's I used to use that were made from alum, these are Well made and Heavy Duty. Just my Thought's Lon Tech808 |

AOH has taken several direct hits on the mountain. I have a Polyphaser inline and connected to the master ground buss bar for the site. Many of the antennas and the tower at the site have been hit before. The radios just keep working! A Polyphaser has no substitute. The ham surge protectors and other consumer grade does not even come close to comparing to the professional stuff. Get a Polyphaser and forget about it. |

Hey guys, thanks a lot for the feedback on this. I've been thinking of adding a little extra protection on my equipment because there's been quite a few more storms here in the midwest than usual. Missouri was hit with several storms here in the past month too but I'm sure I'll get these now for sure!! Appreciate it guys!!!! BoXCaR |

The best lightning arrestor is insurance. A good specific equipment policy is the best protection. Home owners insurance usually pays for such damage as well but may have some limitations (may not cover damage to toweres, antennas or coax and may pay only market value), check with your insurance agent. |

Most important thing for your antenna, just as important as keeping it away from power lines... |
