I was wondering if anyone was monitoring any traffic on short wave or ham bands. I saw a segment on CNN about a ham operator who was patching soldiers into phones so they could talk to their famalies, and also giving weather to pilots. If any of you are on this forum GOD bless you. And if anyone is listening can you reccommend a short wave to pick up all this on. Thanks..and GOD Bless America |

That's an interesting question because I'm wondering what frequency they would be operating on. I've been doing some monitoring myself but have not heard anything. Anyone that has any info on this, please post your comments. Very interesting subject too!! God Bless Our Troops!!!!!! |

I can tell you that listning to short wave, sure does give you a better understanding of how anti american the majority of countrys are... Funny just the same, the american media talks every now and again about it, but the MAJORITY of the countries are so anti american, that vistors to those countries, would have to keep there head down to just for being a american... |

When you travel to these parts of the world, you often find that they are against the U.S. government, not the American people or our culture. Most of them like americans, american music, movies, etc....They just think a policy of "Regime Change" is in order for America. I sure hope we get rid of this current crowd as soon as possible, and hope the next regime reverses the direction we are headed in, and right quick. |

Don't tell that to the americans thats been kidnapped, they will disagree strongly.. Those people know already that sence they are from the united states, and have been in that situation that they know it's more than just being irate at the government.. They hate the people and the government.... |

Maby its the time i grew up in but i realy dont care what the world thinks of us. It's strange that you dont see these people wanting to go to uganda or iroq no they want to come here ..... in the late 60's when i was in the army the colleges were swarming with people bent on overthrowing this goverment but they grew up here now they come from other places ......in short america love us or ...... o'well your opinion dosn't count to me anyway ......as for the home grown ones ....... i want any goverment support or grants recinded since my tax money dosnt need to be used to support the next generation of american born trators. Kiwikid my brother was at the world traid center just after it happened he smelt the dead...... i had a cousen who suvived it 3000 americans are dead there is a country and western record that says it all " HAVE YOU FORGOTEN ? " go check it out. Bush is right " we stop them now or in our streets " O while im on a roll ...... the ones who MURDERED the american GI's we need to get them and coat the bullets with pig fat .....even for them there ARE rules of war Bruce |

International shortwave is indeed a great way to get "the big picture" as opposed to only digesting what is fed to us domestically. Some interesting stations to look for are Voice of Russia, Voice of Iran, Deutsche Welle, Radio Espana, just to name a few. Just a sidenote, I was able to receive Radio Iraq International until Wednesday night on 11785, after which it has been jammed by a very strong signal. This happened immediately after we heard about the bombing of the TV station. |

WOW!! There is a whole heack of a lot of radio broadcasts going on. I never even attempted to listen to the shortwave stuff with the DX-70TH until this post showed up. I was listening to some middle eastern stuff but I wasn't sure who I was listening to, I forgot that they broadcast in Arabic and not English, smart, huh? And there is a bunch of realigous fanatics that broadcast in the 9mhz band, some really odd stuff, like the anti government people and doomsdayers. Funny thing though, I thought that it was illegal to broadcast on the SW bands here in the US. I know that the people were talking were citizens because they were talking about "their" country. By the way Kiwi Kid, thanx for the slam on our President. I realize that your country is probably a much better place to live than ours due to your parliament, but even if I had an opinion about it, which I don't, I don't think that I would post it on a New Zealand based website. It takes a fair amount of cojones, to send hundreds of thousands of young men and women off to take out an insane bully with chemical weapons who thinks he is on a mission from God, knowing that not all of them are going to make it back. I realize that our President has made a lot of people unhappy with the course of action he has pursued, but if you look at it like most of us over here do, you might see a bit more logic behind it than you do now. Most of the countries in the world have chosen to ignore what has been happening in the middle east for many years, rather than try and get rid of the "bully" they submit to him and do business with him to try and appease him, figuring that as long as they both are invloved in economic ventures, he will never attack them. Did anybody else notice how many terrorists were apprehended in France and Germany? Why do you think they were living there? No, I do not believe that their governments support terrorism, but I do believe that they are indifferent to every one else. To make it simple, they only care about themselves. It is a very simple way to live. Now if you look at our country, you must remember that very few of us are indiginous people, except for native americans. We are made up of every nationallity and ethnicity that exsists on this planet. We, myslef included, have roots in other countries that were so bad to live in, our ancestors came here for a new start. A new start that included freedom, freedom of relgion, freedom of free speech, freedom to assemble, freedom to vote, freedom to do a whole lot more than any other countries even let you THINK about. Now, you look at Iraq, saddam kills his own people, hides in hospitals and schools, puts weapons in civilians homes and if you don't aggree with him, he kills you and your family. OK, so our president says enough of this, lets take this wacko out of power. All of a sudden, it's a war for oil!! Yes!!, I'm sure that the president want's to send our soldiers off to die, for oil. I'm sure that all he thinks about is making the oil companies happy, right? He probably doesn't care that there are men being pushed feet first into plastic shredders while their wives and chilren are forced to watch and listen to the screams, right? And I'm sure that the idea of children being gassed and left to rot in the street doesn't phase him either. Our country is doing what needs to be done since everyone else is afraid to do it. They don't want to make the bully mad, as long as nothing happens to them, they will shrug off what happens to the others in the world. We can't stand for dictators and terrorists to kncok around innocent people. The international laws tie our hands, but we finnaly said enough, we must act. Now you can see what saddam has been doing and to what lengths he will go to harm those who disagree with him. He kills our POW's and Britain's too. And you still want to be against our president? You still say this is just for the oil? You can dislike us our or leader for now, but remember that if your small island is ever threatened, now matter how you slam us our our leadership now, we will be there to help you and your people as we would anywhere else in the world. God Bless the USA. And New Zealand too. DAN |

I personally dont think we need a regime change......This economy can NOT be blamed on Bush....He had nothing to do with Sept 11th and that is what the economy is breathing off of....Bush just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. I think what we are doing needed to be done no matter what....We have proven Saddam is a liar and can not follow rules....Just a matter of time before we prove he has weapons of mass murder.. The only reason we didnt get UN approval is because the French and Germans have blood all over their hands... I think as soon as we get close enough to Bagdad, everyone will see (unfortunately) that Saddam plans to use these weapons. Then and only then will people see the light about our great leader....As soon as we can prove that we are making progress in this war the economy will turn around....BTW, personaly I think the UN should be expelled from the country for not doing their job PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN BUCK |

Kiwikid, I think this is the wrong place and time to slam our president. Since the U.S. and G/B have the "berries" to step in and stop a madman (yes I know a few other countries are involved)is this wrong to you? I sick and tired of people crying that it's just for OIL. We treat the Iraqi pows like kings compared to how they treat ours, but I guess that is o.k. Saddam (666?) followers fight with women and children in front of them. They raise white flags to surrender, but then ambush us. Just be glad Kiwi there are a few countries left that will step in, and put THEIR young men and women in harms way, to keep your FREEDOM. Bruce, Triple, Topten and Buck loved your replys. May GOD continue to bless the U.S.

HELLO Team, I am sorry if I offended you guys but my referance to your President was in relation to the shortwave propaganda machine that is out there. From my perspective the propaganda appears to be directed at the Bush Team not at the USA nation.I obviously did not express myself clear enough,PERIOD! 73 Kiwi Kid |

It would be cool to see some interesting summaries of transmissions recieved on the shortwave/mars bands on this thread. Maybe we could discuss those here 'caus it would be more relevant to the heading for this thread. It is an interesting topic. |

Part of being an american like tripplecguy said is "A new start that included freedom, freedom of relgion, freedom of free speech, freedom to assemble, freedom to vote, freedom to do a whole lot more than any other countries even let you THINK about." These rights also alow us to change the way that we govern ourselvs. We all have the right to voice our opinon. If you dont like the way the country is operated, then you should do some thing about it or quit you b*tch*ng. The fiew that accualy try and change things have a tendancy to go overboard on what they are tring to chance i.e.: we need rules on guns if it were leagal for anyone and every one to own a gun there would be caoss, also if no citizen were leagaly allowed to one a gun the number of violent crimes would ski-rocket, the same goes for radios, if anyone and everyone could talk on whatever freq that they wanted to then it would be impossible radio for ligitmat use such as ploice, sherif, fire, ambulance, and of course us. Some ideas of theirs are good ideas, most aren't. There is a compromise to everthing (almost) and special rights groups need to realise this, another thing that need to realise is there should be no special rights(with the exeption of handicaped and the elderly). In this countrie we are all suposed to have equal rights. It iratates me so much when people wine about Bush and his policies, then when you ask them who they voted for in the presidental election they say that they didn't vote. politics have become a carrer and holding offices were ment to be a duty just like jury duty. So what if this war is going to give us control of oil also along with getting rid of an evil ruler, it might make my drive to work a lot cheaper. This my opinion and I am entitled to it. You are entitled to yours also, and I welcom critism, maybe it will open my eyes to a diffrent point of view. |

Hello to all... This war is not about oil, America has more oil in Alaska then the middle east has. Only we can't touch it because of the tree huggers that complain when we drill for new oil. I guess when gas hits 4 bucks a gallon they might sing a new tune. As for he hatred towards American, They don't hate Americans (remember the american taliban) He said he converted to islam and was anti american and they gave him a gun. They hate America because we are a christian nation that supports Israel. This war is going to be the final battle and I have read the ending and We christians WIN!!!! Talk about skip! |
