WHAT WOULD MAKE THE TALKBACK IN A GALAXY 44 GET SO HIGH THAT IT WILL SQUEL AND THEN SO LOW YOU CAN'T HARDLY HEAR IT WHEN YOUR TALKING ON IT?? ANYONE KNOW??

This is normally caused by poor grounding or what is sometimes referred to as ground loops. Try adding a grounding strap from one of the case screws to your vehicle ground and keep it as short as possible.

Poor ground, high swr, a combination of poor ground and swr, and often after a "truckstop supertune" these problems arise.

Common problem..Remove the TOP cover...Tighten all 4 screws (one in each corner of the main board) that hold it to the chassis. This is where the decoupling capacitors are...
