Well I was there at 4pm, and was listening. My call sign was, CE512 in the state of MAINE. Around 4:05pm they started coming in. Here's what I had for contacts.

CE645 - 4:05 - LA, loud and strong.

CE799 - 4:06 - FLA, weaker, but in there for sure.

CE340 - 4:08 - AR, had to work for it, but we heard him in there.

CE29/Whiskey - 4:10 - I think he was in MO, but I had some stations walking on him. But we did hear him in there, and he heard me!

And they were all I heard. Mind you they were in there right till I signed off at 4:26. All in all, a good time DXing. I haven't had the time to do that since last February. 4 contacts in 5 mins or so was some sweet. I look forward to the next time!

I thought the dx a thon was a great success...talked to 2180 dave out of Tempe and he was booming here in Iowa....Karatebutcher was also booming in here...Had good contacts with both..also talked to 2180 in his moble and while I was barefoot.....Great dxing...heard Alsworld, 123 up mich, 821, 857, and Dx431, but I couldnt make contact with any of them. All in all I would say it was a success..Karatebutcher...you better watch that bigstick...anything that works that well might come up missing!!!:)

well, this is my results from this dx a thon from michigan.......

1. ce451 the znut.. it was nice finally nice to qso with you. was tryin to ask you if you were running your hommade loop antenna. you were weak but a good sounding station.
2. ce536 the karatebutcher... man what a station, this guy should be an advertisement for shakespeare! lol he hit me good and hard on 58,42 and 39. he was just simply blowin smoke! funny only heard one person that rivaled him.
3. ce2180 dave tempi arizona. now this was karatebutchers only problem in upper michigan. had him 30 over the whole dxathon other than in his mobile.lol a fine sounding station hopefully one of these days he can jion us on the forum.. 73's dave
4. ce821 illinois now this was a suprise one for me i never thought conditions would allow me to talk to illinois. but 2 sunits but could hear him just fine. another quality coppers station.
5. ce267 central florida... it was just a short contact bein that conditions for me were really workin towards the west coast. but i did hear ya
6. ce817 california. i did not get to much imformation on this contact cause mexican pizza was jumpin out the oven but i did hear ya
7. scapiron.. i did hear ya right off the bat when karatebutcher was talkin to ya but conditions would not allow me to make the return trip.. maybe next time.lol
8.and i cannot forget alsworld ce799 without him this whole thing would not be possible. i had a weak copy but i definitly could hear you.. your system of mike relaying was all american.,lol die hard operator that is for sure my hats off to you sir.
NON COPPER CONTACTS WORTH MENTIONING
1. HILLBILLY 6 IN ARIZONA. we run on his home channel, but he was a patient man and one of the hobby. he was very stong and very good about relaying contact information in my neck of the woods
2. wa13 ron washington state... he was a good clear sounding station also interested in the dxathon.. did not like ny beep but could not help it..lol
3. southern california 254.. regardless on his cutting down of copper electronics, at least he kept with the spirit of the radio and did not interfer.. a quality sounding mobile and a boomer in michigan for sure.
4.365 deisel car, new mexico.. a strong preformer no doubt, and good sounding thought he was turnin in my driveway.lol

well for me this dxathon was a sucsess, made a lot of fun contacts and had a blast. now for everyone that heard me i was one of the little stations.. i was running about 45 watts out the back door of the 2510 and nothing else. but i do not hink a boot would have helped me very much. but hopefully my response will help some people and maybe we will try it again next time

this is Copper Electronics 123 upper michigan operator sam and we are tryin! break break!!!!!

Only talked to ce2180 with his beam, he was a good sounding station. I tried to get out a few times but I think my t/s was being driven to much by my radio. The modulation transistor has been cut so I think the radio did not preform good on ssb. Also heard karatebutcher in Ca.. This was my first dxathon and it was fun. Hope to try again another time. 73

Wow folks,

where do I begin? So many people to thank but I must try and thank everyone who gave their time and efforts to make this second Dx-A-Thon of 2002 such a success. As with the first one, I did not have the big audio nor ears, but this was not about me, it was about us. What a success heh?

Here is my rundown but please understand, it is far from conclusive:

I must say to Copper Electronics, your forum and technical assistance (Copper Tech's) made for some OUTSTANDING sounding radios out there today. Hopefully the free advertisement will go far.

I also must thank everyone for their demeanor on the radio. We had some local channels trying to get through and nobody was rude, but explained what was going on and hopefully, we made a few more members of the Copper forum.

CE857 aka Sandbagger106- first voice I heard out of S. California. Great sounding station for sure. You were talking to...
CE821 aka Highlander821- Highlander runs superb equipment, but conditions were not so favorable on my end this time. I could hear you but not as great as previous QSO's. No fault of your own though. Everyone else was hearing you for sure!
CE512 aka Sodapop- a year ago when I first came to this forum, it was people like you who I turned to to learn about this hobby. You were a mentor whether you realized it or not. Hopefully you can see some of the successful rewards today. Great finally talking to you.
CE536 aka Karatebutcher- we did it again Ted. Always a great hookup between us. I appreciate your support and help. Couldn't do it without your ears and modulation from that west coast. Superb audio as always.
123UpperMichigan- Dude you were on fire today! The whole nation came back to you and it was awesome! I am so glad you hooked up with this one because you were everywhere for sure. Thanks for your time and efforts.
Dave, 2180 in Tempe Arizona- For those that don't know, Dave has no computer and cannot post to the forum. He can only read the forum from work and is a BIG reader, knowing many of us and our profiles. Dave, those radios of yours, both base and mobiles were SMOKING here in Florida, and I know other places as well. Man you sounded loud, clear, and it was great to talk to you. SUPERB audio!!! Thanks for joining in.
Hillbilly6 from Phoenix Arizona, I realize you were not part of the forum members but you let us into your home channel with much grace. If the message you were waiting for would have gone through, we would have been quiet as it was important. Thank you for your understanding and letting us "talk through" while waiting for your traffic. A class act with a great radio.
Scrapiron- quick and sweet but a hookup no doubt. I wish I could have been longer.
CE451 Znut- man we worked hard but finally got a QSO. Man that was almost work. Good finally hooking up.

Gosh, so many others I know were out there but I could not hook up with. Here is some of who I know were there:
Apocolypse400 - got there late but he was there.
Dx431 was all over the place, just me and him could not hook up. Bummer!
CE645, the Tinman was out there for sure!
I could of swore I heard radiodude for a second? Anyone verify?
CE812, Buck from Iowa. I could hear Dave talking to you. Were you barefoot? Great job dude!
Dodgeman popped up out there somewhere, I know someone talked to him.
5776 Sonoma was hooking up there from Oklahoma. I tried but it wasn't made to be today.

Man I am only afraid of who I have either forgotten or failed to hear. Please understand this is by far from the accurate list. If there are others who are not listed within this thread, please add your name. My ears were not that good today and receiving was rough.

I also want to throw a special thanks to 707 for once again making the DXring chat website available to us all. It was invaluable in assisting with channels and conditions changing. I truly appreciate your help.

Well folks, I know I have left off people, but don't know who right now, so I will post and then it will come to me. Thanks again for everyone who made this another success. Outstanding for sure.

Another success!
I know I heard most of you out there, the conditions were not in my favor at all. I did talk to Karatebutcher. Man, the frequency was all you! Good sounding station as always.I did hear 512, 2180 and I thought I heard 812 out there, just couldn't get back to him, the conditions were changing rapidly.. And Al, one of these days, man, we WILL hook up.
One more thing i must add. we must applaud Al for all the time and effort he put into organizing these sessions, and to Copper Electronics for making this possible. I take my hat off for y'all.
Thank You!
I am looking forward to many more sessions like this one, hopefully I will get to contact those I did hear and those I didn't.

Happy DXing!

431,

Email me so we can keep an eye on conditions. We shouldn't have any problem getting together on the air, after a couple of tries anyway. With my being in the southeast corner of the Country I hear a bunch of DX.

did anyone also have like local dx rollin during the dxathon? before it started and during i was picking up stations in lower michigan and that is just not normally heard of. like battle creek which was 350-400 miles away, i think that these conditions were what let me talk to illinois but not sure, i know it is rare, have not seen it in about 5 years, but damn was it a good feelin..lol i talk to california more than i talk to michigan. and alsword thanks for the praise.. makes a station feel good, the sad thing is i am in the middle of a swamp not much above sea level but the grounding is the secret no doubt about it well got to go to work have fun ya'll 123 upper michigan operator sam

Hi all

I worked:

-Ce857 sandbagger 106 in CA
-Ce2180, Dave in Tempe, AZ
-Ce536 Ted, karatebutcher, forgot to log your qth...
-Ce123 Sam upper-michigan --cool propagation, you had plenty of audio coming down here.
-Ce799 was heard in FLA, very poor propagation, but with less noise, could have qso'd briefly.
-Hillbilly 6 was on freq and very nice fellow
-251 mobile , CA briefly

It was fun to hear some of the others on freq making contacts inside my skip zone

Equipment I was using-
on 27.580- Galaxy DX2517 base, Astatic Tup9 with 10DA sideband head, KLV-350 on low, ~200 watts , Imax-2000 antenna at 35 foot feedpoint.

on 27.420- President Lincoln, Shure 526T microphone, KLV 550 on medium(4 of 6) ~300 watts, Imax2000.

on 27.395-Roadpro TitanII RPSY485(the 90 dollar radio), Astatic 1104C microphone, klv 250 @ ~125 watts, Imax2000.

Thanks 799, Alsworld for your efforts, great idea to spread the frequency usage--Thanks forumaster and copper for the forum and your time.

Hey 123, I had those weird conditions in Arkansas also, and as usually way to much receive especially Spanish. It was fun, I heard a lot of people, didn't try to talk to many as I was trying to listen between the hash and trash. On the short skip, I heard Sonoma 5776 for quite a while, and he and I are only about 250 miles apart.
I was getting the west coast loudest, 536 and 2180 AZ really strong, also a 512, 857, and 892, that 254 mobil was loud too. I didn't have a strong signal on 123 and 799, but heard them off and on in most of the time slots. 821 came in a couple times. There were several more I failed to write down their numbers, I spend some time changed radios, trying to find one maybe with a little less noise. My Ranger has such a strong receive, I thought the Saturn or 2510 might be better, but not much difference with those conditions. That's just the way it is when you have a high antenna on a mountain top, you hear too much sometimes.
But thats the fun of radio, and I did enjoy it, and thanks again Alsworld for a good job. Hope we can do it again. In fact, it would be nice if the Charlie Echo group kinda had a regular call frequency, I know I would monitor it quite a bit, something to thing about anyway.

I meant to thank Forummaster and Coppers also for their help and the forum. Of the dozens I heard yesterday, just one tried to badmouth Copper a little bit, and it was hearsay stuff. I could hear both sides of the conversation, and it was handled very well, good job 123.

Sodapop & Karatebutcher. Wow !!! I knew that I made the connection with Sodapop in the first segment. I was on The Arkansas River Bridge at the time, but I had no idea that Karatebutcher pulled me out too. Just shortly after 3pm Central that blasted cold front rolled through here with plenty of low black clouds. I did hear several of you at different times but only actually made contact once. I'm not braggin' (too much) but for a barefoot Superstar 3900 in a moving pickup truck I couldn't be happier. Thanks to those that tried to get back to me and to Alsworld for all the work putting this together. I'm ready to try again Thursday!
