I moved from the L.A. suburbs not too long ago where we had a good group on SSB (33USB). I'm in the So. Ca. high desert now, around Mojave, and I don't hear any SSB except the skip of course in the day. Are there any local guys / gals say within a 50 mile or so radius of me that talk after the skip dies out in the evening? If you are out there send me an email or add a post. I would love to get a group going, even if you've lost interest in AM give SSB a try, when the skip is gone it's a way efficient mode if you have not tried it. Hope to here from some locals. Thanks for the response Chris, I like to stay "in band" but if you want to try it on 33 USB send me an email. I've been listening, and after the skip is gone for the day the band is deserted with the exception of some truckers passing by. Hope to hear from you and other locals. Cheers SB106 |

Alright I'm gonna send ya an E-mail as well as post here to keep evereybody informed. My base is a 5/8 ground plane and a completly untouched realistic Navajo radio,I probly cant reach out and touch you with that setup since its about 70 miles between us but..........I can drive my Jeep to the top of the Ord mountains (ele:4880 ft)From this point I can see the tehachapi mountains that are west of you.We should be line of sight separated by 70 miles. Whats a good time to try this? |

Ok for those who want to know, we are going to try tonight (Sunday) at 7:30 PST. I run a stock station too, but with the altitude and line of sight I think we have a good shot at this. I've talked about 100 miles on SSB line of sight on 12 watts PEP. Thanks for trying Chris and anybody close listen / join in. We are going to be on 33USB. Cheers. SB#106 |

Hey everybody, It worked! We yaked for at least an hour.It was Cb radio grand central around me.We tried several different freqs and ended up on ch.1 usb.I live pretty close to a major freeway between Vegas and L.A. and did have the ocasional bleedover and people driving through and plugging my ears but it wasn't too annoying. I was able to turn my Rf power all the way down and turn off my linier and still talk. Gonna get out a map and figure out just how far it is. But next time I drive to the top of a mountain I'm gonna bring a warm, cuddly cutie with me! |

We had a good chat, Chris put in a good signal here and I had no interference on my end. It looks to be about 70 miles line of site. We are planning to see if we can make contact from Chris's base, maybe next weekend, it looks like it would still be line of site, although Chris would be giving away some altitude. Thanks for the contact Chris and anyone else who is in this area and would like to try just give me an e-mail. SB 106. |
