What a radio, I have had this radio now for 6 years, I replaced my Cobra 138XLR mobil, it to was a good radio, or should I say someone stole it when I lived in Tahoe, I back it up with a Palomar 250 and only use it when I go to the lake at a highter elevation, does it get out, does anyone else have one ? |

I have a 146GTL, it will talk rings around the VR-9000 that I have. The 146 has to be the finest radio I have ever owned. Its over 14 years old, and had been on a shelf, never installed! Are the 148 and 146 alike? |

I have a 148 that is old enough to have been made in Taiwan, it must be at least 20 years old and works perfectly. Got a fairly old Grant also, another good radio. Now if I could just get my hands on a Washington or Cobra 2000, that would be nice. SB#016 |

Apacolypse 400 I do not know if the two radios are the same, is it a Cobra, I have a real neat Cobra 29ltd, in real good shape, and a Cobra 148gtl ex, I liked the Cobra's |

Yeap 1988 Cobra 146GTL, It seems the two have diffrent boards. I know it has the best recieve of any radio I have ever used, by far. I always liked the Cobras, and have owned more of them than any other radio. That is till their recent line. The radio I always wanted was a 148GLT-DX!! |

I have a realistic TRC 451 that i think usues the same board as the 146GTL. I know the 451 has some sort of speech processor intalled in it when i got it and it screams on AM with just the stock mike!!!!! |

Cobra 148 GTL EX I am going to take this Cobra out of moth balls and put it in my car, it is old but with the help of my wife, she is going to re paint the gold knobs and the outer black surface, this radio goes places that only my Galaxy base goes, it is going to look good, any comments?
It has the fine and coarse clafier, and the coarse seems to turn and then lock in on frequency, really neat, cool, new old TOY |

Painting the knobs will get you in trouble. The plastic will melt in time from the chemicals. Leave them alone. If you paint the covers , heat them up in the oven to about 300 degrees , take them outside and spray them fast. The paint will dry on cantact and will be harder than if you paint them cool. Use a FLAT paint or Semi Flat Paint. Don't use gloss. |

307 Thank you for your advise, and the radio is finished, bnut it still has that problem of all of a sudden no recieve, then if you tap it, it is ok again, it may go back in stowage I do not want to put money into it. |

307. ive painted knobs on radios and never once had them "melt" i do it all the time and never had problems. Karatebutcher go ahead and paint your knobs you will be ok im sure.. :-) I used testors model paint and it works good. |

HOOSIERCARDINAL Thank you, I did paint my so to speak knobs, the radio really looks sharp, it is old. how old I do not really know, I do like the different bands it has, and the coarse and fine clafier it has, the only problem is as I mentioned above, I will see how much it bothers me to bump it every once in a while, other than that it is great. |

LOL told ya it would work!! They didnt melt did they???? I can see that they would say if you stuck them in paint thinner but if you just used model paint or the like they would be A-OK!!!! :-) |
