I was looking at Copper's DMC 531 mic. Is it true that it has compression? I'm looking for a mic with compression for SSB use.
Overall, how is this mic?

As most Compression Microphones generally go for for a pretty good price, I would guess that the DMC Mic is not a Compression Mic at its reasonable price.
Tha last COMPRESSION Hand Power Mic I had was a Voicecraft DM and it was around $70.00.
I might be wrong but I do not think the DMC531 is a Compression Mic.
I did notice on the COPPER HOMEPAGE that they were out of stock on these mics. So if you were thinking of ordering one you might want to give them a call tomorrow and check to make sure they have them on hand. And at the same time you could ask to make sure if these are a Compression Mic.
Just my thoughts.

I have a DMC 531. It's not a compression or noise canceling microphone. It's just a plain old electret condensor powered microphone.
Everyone that hears it says it sounds good on my Washington. Hey, for under $20 you can't beat it. |

Under $20 is good. I was wondering, though. I've seen different looking pictures in the different catalogs and fliers. One has a screen on the front and looks pretty nice, the other is the old para-dynamics style with the holes in the plastic and a slider on the front.
I also was wondering about a ceramic cartridge because those sound a little better and are less prone to RF feedback, than the standard electret element. The squeal is NOT good.
I guess I'm spoiled by my 575 M6.

The DMC 531 is the one that looks like the Para Dynamics mic. The MC 458 is likely the one with the screen and resembles one of the Turner mics. The MC 458 has a ceramic element.
As a recent side note. I just wired the DMC 531 to a Yaesu FT-757GX and so far good audio reports. Some even thought it was a D-104.
I also have an MC 458 I got with a radio and haven't had such good luck with it. Mine tends to have a persistant hum, but it could just be a defective mic. Be prepared, the MC 458 uses the 7.5 volt battery, where the DMC 531 uses a standard 9 volt. |
