Just wondering but do people buy these things?
Just wondering cause I never hear anything about them on the forum. |

hey taz have you ever put one of these bad boys together? pain the ass. i have put many a maco together and just can't figure out why they do not have a better system of element alignment. they are sure good talkers but the last guy i knew that put one up, we was messin with it 3 months later tryin to get all the elements straight. i figure to do it right ya gotta have to be a carpenter with a degree in rocket science.lol to bad maco could not patent something like raker hubs and take all the work right out of it. also taz what freq. do you run? have tried to talk to you a couple of times and you are in my dx window but cannot seem to make the trip.. 73's 123 upper michigan |

I have know one or two people who have had them. They are a two eded sword. On the one hand the forward gain is fantastic. On the other if you are not pointed at a weak signal and it is at the back of your antenna you will never hear it.
The primary negative factor is the cost of the antenna. Have you ever looked at the cost of the Lazer 500? Not inexpensive. |

I had a chance to get one for 250.00 once but the problem was putting it up and getting those elements to line up. I dont know why maco doesnt have an easier way to make the elements line up! Avanti had the hubs for the moonrkaer 4 and 6 so why didnt mako so something similar? |

Yeah, I have seen one put up. It's the origional wilson though.
Of course he had 2 guys to help him. One of the guys had put it together before, which is who he bought it from. Im not sure how long it took him to put it together but hes good with them, so it probly didnt take him to long.
He has 20k JO GUNN gammas on it, so he can run a big amp through it. |

123, my radio is sitting in jacksonville florida 3 hours from 307 at a ups depot. When my radio comes back I will be on 27.165 all the time. |

getting the elements in line is easy. We used to use this method with rakers. Assemble the reflector sub assembly. Then assemble the forward most sub assembly. Attach the reflector permanently in the X configuration. Attach the front X and attach it to the front anywhere. Lay the boom front X and back X on a flat piece of ground or concrete. If the surface is flat the elements will now be in alignment. Now streach a string just like the brick layers do across two or more of the little X arms from fron to back. Getting the middle elements to line up is as easy as gently touching the middle elements to the guide line string you just streached.
OH the last element? Well you have to eyeball that one but with all those elements lined up it is an easy task to get that last two in line. |

I never had any luck with the Maco stuff. I bought a comet once and got so frustrated with the elements not lining up i sold it and bought a MR 4 and thats what ive run ever since. |
