I recieved my VR-9000 from Copper on Tuesday. It was totally unmodified when I recieved it. I did the channel conversion on it, and hooked it up to the temporary dipole antenna. With the RF power to max, it dead keyed 4 and swing was to 15. Well I got my Solorcon A99 today and hooked it up. Now I deadkey 11 and swing up to 30 on my crappy aries meter. Does a good antenna make that big of a diffrence? My SWR's were preaty much flat on both. VERY HAPPY WITH THE VR9000!!!!!! Steve 400 SE Ky. |

I'm not a tech by any means but I personally think that different antennas make a difference for each radio. I've been going back and forth between a wilson 5000 and a 4 foot firestick fiberglass and it may just be me but my 5000 works better w/the vr 9000 and the fiberglass with my General Lee. I drive truck and go through different weather changes and up and down hills but that's my opinion on the antenna thing.....also, I did the mod for the 9000 myself and very well have done it incorrectly, but I switched it back and like it better closer to factory specs. get your dead key low and put a box on it, it will talk.....
