Just wondering if they really help. I was thinking of putting one in the hot lead of my Texas Starr 400. This lo-rider dude told me he uses them for his car stereo amps. I figured they might work for linears too ! |

They make excellent filters, but do nothing to support amperage that isn't there. About a second (or less) after you key it discharges, recharges after you unkey. They cost about $80-100, a nice second 850cca battery can be had for less and actually benefit! |

I bet these would work great with a homebrew inductor(series connection) say 2 guage wire wound around a ferrite rod 3" thick and 12" long about 100 times, that should handle the amps and help cancel the voltage drop, what do you think 2600,plausible? Bigbob |

if in am mode and you are deadkeying more than the electrical system can provide, then they will not help any. they are for -instant- spurts of current like with modulated am or ssb. because of their very low internal resistance they can quickly deliver current(much faster than a battery can because its internal resistance is higher)once the vehicles electrical capacity has been reached(no more current to give and voltage drops). but like i said, they can't hold a steady amount of current, just quick burts. |
