try a texas star sweet 16, i dont think the coax will handle the wattage though. I wouldnt run that kind of power through a magnet mount. |

Consider your power supply in the vehicle. 4 or 5 transistors is pretty much the upper limit unless you have a police-package high-capacity alternator. Even with one of those, an 8-transistor amp will still be happier with its own separate alternator. Any bigger than 8 transistors, and you pretty well have to give the amp its own alternator and batteries. Personally, I favor the DX667 over the Boomer 600, but that's just an opinion. If you're comparing used amplifiers, the miles count for as much as the name brand. Oh, and a mag mount is a famously effective way to blow the H-E-double-toothpicks out of a large amp. The fun part is that you can never predict how soon it will go. Just don't use a K-40 this way. 73 |

Bigbob, I sure wish I could help you but this one is beyond me. I just had to comment on the title, "Die birds die!!" That cracked me up and has got to be in the top percentage of "classic titles" on the Copper forum! That was too funny. Alsworld |

2600,I read somewhere that k-40s have a disc cap. internally to form part of the L-C circuit and those discs were notorious for shorting when more than 200 watts were applied,is that good info.or just bunk? |

Bigbob, Texastar 667 is one of the best amps, but if you want better transmit go to a 102in. whip. It out talks all others. |
