Well folks, yep, I just killed my Philippine cobra 29 by not checking my swr's. Had it hooked up on the base and didn't realize that the pouring down rain and my Bandit II don't go together. So I am curious, what tools do I need fix it and where do I start looking? Is it worth whiled to repair it or am I better off leaving it in the hands of a pro or just keep it for parts? I feel confident that I could do the repair since I have done many mods before but this would be my first repair. Also, what is the best way to cover the tuning rings on the antenna? Its no fun waiting for the rain to stop to use the radio... |

well 1st put a another radio very close to the 29, key the 29 and add modulation. if you can hear the 29, then replacing the final(use a 2sc1969) should fix your problem. |

Great news! my 29 ltd came back to life! I don't how but everything works ok except the swr cal and the showing of swr's. For some reason when the switch is in cal or swr, the meter shows no movement and the cal knob has no effect on the unit. When I have the switch in s/rf then the meter shows movement. I noticed after I killed it, when I would key up, the tx light would stay green and I couldn't receive anyone. It was dead quiet. So, is this a miracle or do I just have a lucky unit? Also why did the high swr's only knock out my swr cal? |

Would wrapping the tuning rings with plastic wrap help? Also I haven't seen anything on the forums about the Workman Bandit II. Where does this antenna rate on the charts? It does ok talking locally but for DX I am going to have to find a beam. |
