Hey folks, I’m trying to coordinate a Copper Forum "DX-a-thon" where maybe some of us can hook up on the radio this Saturday, 28 Sept 2002. I have read in previous post where this has been tried with and without success. Some lessons learned: you cannot make everyone happy conditions will really decide the success or failure everyone suggest different channels and few actually hook up because of that confusion So with that, I’m going to just invite all of you into what I have planned and hope for the best. I have tried to take into consideration all time zones within the US, those that have AM radios only, those that have 40 channel radios with SSB, and those who have "export" or 10 meter modified radios. Each time zone listed below is for different frequencies including AM and SSB. AM on the 40 channels is noisy but I wanted to give those with just 40 AM channels an opportunity for contact with everyone else. For those that are interested, pick your time/freq. or ride it out through all the various channels. We will freeband to a small degree but stay far away from the ham bands. I would like to give some priority to those that only can (no power), or choose to, run barefoot to get in their time as well as the rest of us. The point is to just have some fun trying to reach each other and log some contacts along the way. I know I probably will not hear everyone, but someone else on the forum might and if we have some patience and keep the QSO’s short, pass the word to others between us, it just might work. I also realize it a college football Saturday so not everyone has the time or wants to sit behind a radio for hours so I’ve broken it down to this: 2 p.m. Eastern / 1 p.m. Central / 12:00 noon Mountain / 11:00 a.m. Pacific for ½ an hour: Frequency: 27.490 LSB 2:30 p.m. Eastern/ 1:30 p.m. Central / 12:30 p.m. Mountain / 11:30 a.m. Pacific for ½ and hour Frequency 27.235 AM (channel 24 AM on the normal CB frequencies) 3:00 p.m. Eastern / 2:00 p.m. Central / 1:00 p.m. Mountain / 12:00 noon Pacific for ½ hour Frequency 26.975 USB (channel 2 USB on the normal CB frequencies) 3:30 p.m. Eastern / 2:30 p.m. Central / 1:30 p.m. Mountain / 12:30 Pacific for ½ hour Frequency 26.910 LSB This is an open invitation to everyone on this forum and I hope many of you will join in. Run those big, medium, and small stations if you have them but please listen out for those barefoot ones as well. I don’t invision this as being a key down. For those that are interested, please post a response on this thread what name, "handle" or numbers you will use so others can recognize you. We will post results under the "DX Contacts" discussion. If you hear someone from the forum even if contact was not made, let us know. Thanks for your time Alsworld 799 North West Florida |

For those who would like to coordinate contacts online while the DX-A-Thon is happening, feel free to use this chat link: DXRING I will open the channel late Friday night and leave it open for anyone who wants to meet there. Just use your call for user name and don't worry about the email address. NOTE: some folks complain "it won't load". Taz and I have tested it a lot and it works fine. First, it is a JAVA applet, so depending on your connection, will take from 5 to 30 seconds or so to load. Also, if you don't have Java enabled or are running a late version of XP, you may not have the VM needed to access the page. An alternative might be to plan a group conversation on either MSN Messenger or AOL IM, whichever is more prevalent amongst us. |

707, that is fantastic! Thank you! It loaded fine on my old slow computer. Great idea as who knows how conditions will treat us. Znut, I am planning to stick to my original schedule but if you want to expand it later, shoot man just name the frequency and time! I am amazed at how many people have responded. I purposely put in some of the lower channels after reading about your antenna and tuning the lower channels. Are you going to be on that homemade antenna? Alsworld |

Normally, the band opens up here in SW Texas at about 8am with the eastern seaboard to a couple of states in, then central Canada and Florida, then Western seaboard states suddenly at about 9am. For the past week, it's been open band from 8am to about 7pm almost nonstop. I will have a radio on ch38 USB beginning at 9a. |
