Anybody running this line of antenna? Reason I am asking is because I bought one, put it on a 45 foot tower and my Antron receives just as well. I am not impressed. And before you ask, I do have a rotor, and know how to set up a station. Its a JG star 3X3 |

ya know i have heard this kinda result before and i do not think you are to far off. jst one question how far up is the antron? heighth makes a big diffrence, and antron at 65 feet mostly recieves just as well as a beam. i just finished putting up a moonraker 4 last week and at first i was not impressed but the raker was only up about 20 feet but when it reached the same height as my sigma it really did make the diffrence. but the jo gunn i have heard lots of bad things about on this forum like over dramatized spec and so forth. never run one personally and am tryin to talk a local around here not into spending the big bucks on one. the way i look at it is that a beam is a beam you might be able to tighten the beam to get a little more but it is rarely worth the money cause it is hard on the rotor. but a 3 element is better than an antron and a 4 element is better than a 3 and so forth so i think jo gunn might have struck again. well sorry bout your luck 73 and have a good day 123uppermichigan |

fdrish... The JOGUNN 3 elm should have 6 db of gain so it should make about 1 s unit diffrence.... and NO audio gain. |

fdirsh, the JoGunns come fixed tuned in all respects except for some matching. The way it comes there is no adjustment to spacing or element length. So you get what you get. If I saw such results, then I would be checking the measurements and location of all the right elements in the right places. If you have some frequency range in your radio, then plot yourself an SWR bandwidth curve and see where you are actually resonant. If you have the 11 meter version, then it should be in the middle of 11 meters. You could get a little surprise doing this. Some of my buddies have different versions of these antennas and none of them seem to have much rejection. They are typically very close spaced and on a short boom and I guess that doesn't help the rejection. The three element versions and up do show good gain and you can see it in the signal, but they just don't seem to fade much when turning away. I call them omin directional beams. If you have just put it up, then give it a little time to settle in a bit. It may improve some. IMO, the issue of seasoning is probably true of directionals and JG mentions that in their docs. You say it does not show any gain qualities when compared to your Antron, does it show any rejection qualities? Hang in there. Marconi |

BTW, I forgot to mention anything about conditions. If this beam is new to you, there will be times, due to conditions, where the Antron may show as good a signal as the beam. This could also have to do with the reflection of signals off of stuff on the earth close to you. If it is new, then work your antenna for a while and get to know it a little better. Good luck, Marconi |

First....I gotta tell ya...I seen the topic post and my bloodpressure went up! I used to have a 5 Star and , although it was certainly made tough, I also was not impressed. JoGunn should be ashamed of themselves that they advertise the specs they do....but I've seem A99's advertised with 9.9 dbi! What's that bs! Impossible! Anyway, they are nice in the fact that they beef it up, like with the 2" Square boom....I like that, but, then again, heavy stuff in the air bends too. I paid waaaayyyy to much for mine...but I was young and dumb then. Now I'm old and a little smarter...but just a little. Back rejection seemed to really be terrible on mine, although side was decent. Anyway, good luck. it is a nice antenna, but no way near what JoGunn claims it to be. 73 Kirk |

LOL that audio gain! I talked to a sales rep from Jo Gunnonce and they actaully told me the so called audio gains was supposed to make your modulation louder when you used one of their beams! They also said that the larger size elements were supposed to also make the radios audio louder too.. What a farce!! |

haha thats like taking the fiberglass on an antron and gluing bigger peices to will make it more bassy |

hey did yoy guys know that by increasing the element size and by using anodised aircraft aluminum you can get your antennas mudulation to be loud?? LOL! At least that is what Joe Gunn told me on the phone! |

WOW do you think if we made the dia = to the length we would have infinet modulation????? even better if we made the element with wavwy ridges would it make your radio FM ???? Hoosier they must think the cb buyer has a IQ just under that of a rock! Hey im working on a new linear i run 2 inch hard line from the transmitter and the last 1/4 wave is rg-174 micro coax about 3/32 in dia the prosses squesses the electrons like a big into small hose would water and just like water they hit the antenna with great force. And the guy at the other end gets HIGH pressure radio waves to him looks just like a linear! What do you think! |

So antennas are responsible for modulation, and here everybody's been messin' with the guts of the radio no wonder they're gettin things screwed up.LMAO! |

RIGHT BOB hey everyone how big does the antenna have to be to get 100% modulation? |

LOL!!!! I noticed in my reply i said "mudulation" instead of modulation!!!! LOL!!!! But i am dead 100% serious what i said they -DID- tell me that over the freaking phone!!!!!!!!! I about lost it...... I dont know... CB antenna manufacturers must all think us CBers are a bunch of dumb witted, 10th grade drop out, 65 IQ, trailor park trash, welfare wannabees, that cant read, write, drive, or think straight! Guess i dont fit any of those qualifications...... But seriously guys they must really think we are all a bunch of retards!!!! |

I purchased a 50 ft tower from a fellow about a year ago and on the day I arrived to pick up and transport he said he had a Jo Gunn antenna he wasn't using and inquired if I wanted it. I figured why not since he was giving it to me for FREE. I finally put the thing up on the tower and I'm basically pleased with it. I'm getting good signal reports with it on DX. Not sure they are a whole lot better than what I was getting with my Antron either as the previous poster stated. It's the 2 element "Smokin Gunn" model and it was easy to put together and tune. I really don't have a lot of extra space to work with so it fit right in, and especially for the price ($0.00) |

I guess any beam for free, even a jogunn is a pretty good deal. Maybe somone will get an audio gain series for free and send it to me? |
