The story is the machine that stamps them wore out and to replace it would have cost too much

The tooling and dies used to make the base and neck and head were all vintage 1940s and to replace them would have been a monumental task that Astatic didnt want to take. It would have cost millions and millions of dollars to have them all R&Ded and built to spects and placed into service.

Re Bruce and Others....

And too perhaps it could be that technology has passed up the mike heads used in the D104. The Heil mike elements used on the boom headsets of today are much better and much smaller.

HEY!,
I just caught a post on another site. The poster claims that he discussed the mike situation with Astatic, and they stated that they will soon release a another line of base mikes. I don't know if they will resemble the old d104s or the newer echo style.

Does anyone have an opinion of the sadelta echo mikes? They used to be the hot thing back in the day. Funny how few in the US carry these right now.

I just sent Astatic an e-mail asking them about any new base mics coming out, and if they were still going to make handhelds.

From all I read previously from them, what was said above is true about the tooling, but handhelds and the actual D104 mic element is still going to be made. If they answer me back, I'll post it here on the forum.

Hey, I got a quick reply from Astatic even on a Saturday! I had ask if they were planning on a new desk top microphone and if they would still be producing handhelds. Here is their response:

"Yes we will continue to support all our microphones handheld and desk top. There is some talk of looking into a new model but as of yet we have not found one that is as good as the stand mics that are being discontinued.
thank you
Sherri"

This is straight from Astatics sales department.

I would like to have a D-104 non-amped handmic with the classic element. Has anybody seen those for sale lately? It seems like there was one available at one time.
