That's a beginners setup, get yourself a pair of 2290's driving 8-2879's into a pair of 3cx3000's and then ask me if we think you're BAD. Wildbill |

Mocassion, sounds like a sweet setup for sure. Ncrebel, man don't cut yourself short. You can talk a lond way on a barefoot station with that Antron 99. There will come a time where you'll be all over the place and just smiling. There is a beauty to DXing barefoot. Alsworld |

Hey Taz, don't aim that antenna at the moon or you might just blow it up! LOL! On the other hand, just think...you could aim it at your pesky neighbor and cook him like a microwave oven....No more problems (j/k of course!) Alsworld |

haha no doubt Alsworld with that kind of power I would kill myself and everything in the area of probly 100 feet of the tower. I could always run coax under the street and into the farm feild behind my house! plenty of room there for a HUGE tower. Taz |

sounds like a real nice 1st station. im sure your going to enjoy it greatly as you make more and more contacts over time. i have what i deem as a fair station not a bada$$ one though. need a larger amp for that...anyone build large ceramic amps on here? ive got a colliner array/rg 9913 at 85ft "to the top" thats the best vertical antenna ive used to date anyway. a Blackhawk six element quad/ham4/lmr600 on a 25ft test tower thats the tightest beam ive ever used thusfar. it has 100 feet of tower reserved for its final resting place if i ever get time to finish the job. alfa delta 4 pos. switch box, homemade dummy load,2 bird meters one in forward mode the other in reflected.i also have a dosy tc and a struthers meter. 2,ranger 2950dx's,galaxy saturn modified much like a 2517,saturn turbo, older 2950,cobra 142gtl tricked out. 2 D&A phantom amps, with old tubes..... silver/nite k eagles, tug and tup d104's,echo max 2000 ive got a nice setup just low powered. |

Tom i've used BOTH right now my amp used 3 -811's and had 813's in a old WW2 transmitter i had back 30 years ago. The old 829B tubes ( The newer ver of this tube is called a 5894 and will interchange ) I built a dozen amps using them some with 4 tubes they were cheep in thoes days.My big amp was in 1970 my MOONBOUNCE amp a pair of 4cx250b's push-pull tuned line input and output would PUT OUT 1000 watts on 2 meters CW. Running it at the " full Gallon ' input about 800 watts out into 4 17 elm KLM beams i could hear my eccos off the moon using a reciver with a NF .4db @ BW 100 hz CW. But my 811 amp has for the most part sat in the box i realy dont need anything over 100 watts. In the car i run FM and built a class C amp for that mode it will run about 300 watts out at 29.6 on fm but even on that i keep it idled back to about 80-100 it just gets too hot even fan cooled. Next project is to get my antennas to go from 1.6 to 54 mhz so far I have too much interaction between them and the SWR stayes above 2/1 across the bands. No TVI no problems with the others around here just the way i like it. Bruce |

Bullett. Some of that stuff is some of the stuff i used to own. Kudos on the old 142GTL great rig. for me i think 1500 to 2k is enough to get out of the mud but there are some on here that will tell me "thats mudduck" but hey, ask me if i care and ill say "oh well"...... LOL! |

hoosiercardinal, i know what your saying,i have had very good luck with contacts using my old phantom amps. they will only do 1kw with "fresh" tubes.(bird 43 watts) the tubes in mine are tired, its out put is around 300 bird watts and around 600 watts on the dosey test center and i talk along with some fellas running more wattage but less antenna. the 142 is a nice older rig i like them alot. since the number of local cbers here seem to be dropping ive been reaching out farther to communicate and shooting more skip, and some of those boys run some big stuff. |

707.. LOL!!!! Bullett. I know about the retube deal.. I had a 10 tuber phantom once that i had to get retubed. well i had my tech retube it using i -THINK- they were 24lq6 tubes... They were a heck of a lot cheaper than the 6lq6 they used in the amp. $150.00 VS $500.00!!! All he did was change the socket layout to fit the 24s. it worked very well until i sold it. |

Heck Bigbob, it's you that scares me! I thought you were joking about that million watt station until I saw this picture. hmmm... now I get it. You have hired 707 and look at what you have produced in the secret kitchen. Impressive no doubt. I can see it now at NASA: "Endeavor, this is Houston. We are having some interference down here. Is everything okay up there? Over" "Houston, this is Endeavor. No worries, we were just doing a radio check for Bigbob and man did he walk all over you guys! I thought you said we were in a radio dead zone, over". And between one NASA radio tech to another, "wish I had one of them big radios". hehehe Alsworld |
