I just recently got a amp. and must admit I have some concerns about RF radiating from this unit first off I know very little about this subject wich leads me to this post so if some one could addres this isue I think it would benift many of us. 1 can rf.pass through the metal cabinets these amps are built in in my case (klv-1000)? 2 how do you stop it? 3 how can you detect it? 4 what else should we know about RF? Thanks in advance 10ring

Get an MFJ catalog buy their rf ground unit if you're that worried about it.But DO NOT opperate unit with cover off unless you're absolutely sure of what you're doing,at that output you could recieve some severe rf burns. And yes the cabinet does contain most if not all of the radiation.Make sure you get all your coax from coppers and make sure you have good terminations.Don't use meters with plastic housings unless the internal bridge is shielded and grounded, cheap swr meters use unshielded bridges and can release large amounts of rf.

Keep your head away from the amp. If you are noticing headachs then thats a good sign that the rf is a little high there

a simple way to check for RF would be borrow or build a field strengh meter and see if it picks up anything if it dosnt you have very low rf if it does you can track to see if all of it is comming off your antenna or like he said some is comming from poorly sheilded boxex i think rad-shack even has one

10 RING THE BEST THING YOU COULD DO AFTER HEARING YOU OUT THERE YESTERDAY, SO LOUD AND CLEAR, THIS EXPLAINS WHY, SO MY ADVICE IS TO TAG THE AMP WITH MY NAME AND ADDRESS, AND IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO YOU I WILL SEND THE AMP TO COPPER FOR REPAIR

Yeah Bruce ,they say it's uni-directional,but it's unshielded and omni.I can't tell if it's commin from the ant. or the accesories, mfj is more expensive but it's well worth it.
