I am new to Cb 11 Meter. I am looking to purchase a base station for my home and to eb honest I don't know much about what's available. I am in a moblie home community and want to broadcast with as little distrubance to my neighbors. Does anyone know about the CB satelite atennas? Heres a Description: PARABOLIC CB BASE ANTENNA. *TYPE, 1/2 WAVE *IMPEDANCE, 50 OHMS-ACCEPTS STANDARD PL-259 COAX CONNECTOR *FREQUENCY, 26-30 MHZ *GAIN, +3 DBI POLARIZATION, VERTICAL-REQUIRES NO GROUND *ADJUSTABLE SWR, 1,1/1 *MAX POWER, 100 WATTS *BAND WIDTH, 1200KHZ * DIAMETER, 17" I am unfamiluar with these..otherwise I was going to go order online a full 5/8 wave omnidirectional antenna, problem is they are not allowed in my community and finding a decent syetem set up is puzzling me. Any suggestions? I am looking for a full system set up I want to do mostly 11 meter but I intend to later on go for my Ham license and do 10 meter, 20 meter, and 2 meter fm , but can always adjust the system later on accordingly. Any suggestions? Any help and input is greatly appericated. Please feel free to offer suggestion on here or email me at MsDivaDeja@aol.com Thank you very much !! |

Antenna... A dipole might be your best bet. Radio... keep it clean, keep the modulation down, that's about the best you can hope for. |

Hey it could work for you! Run the full 100 watts through it!!!! But go with a dipole if you can I suppose |

Do you have any trees? A plain stick (A-99/I-max) can be easy to camo when stuck in a tree. Znut |

Ms Deja, The antenna specifications you noted are totally BS. Not only would I not purchase that antenna, I would not do business with anyone that spouted such . Not considering the restrictions in your community, just about any vertical base antenna would be a good start. You will find much discussion regarding the benefits of one particular brand over another, but the reality is a good 1/4 wave vertical with a ground plane is pretty much as good as an omni-directional antenna gets, for general purposes. There may be some minor improvement with a 5/8 wave, but for all practical purposes it is minor. Further, the specific antenna you choose has little or nothing to do with neighboring interference. That is much more related to illegal modifications to your radio or to use of an amp. As far as future radio growth, an 11 meter antenna may be useable on 12 or 10 meters, with or without an antenna tuner, but it will not be likely to be effective on other bands. If you do become a ham, there will be many people happy to advise you regarding specific, multi-band antennas. Now, the statements I have just made may be contradicted by others who insist a certain brand or a specific style of antenna is superior, or that clipping a limiter is the only way to go. Please be assured, these are individual opinions, just as my statements are my own opinions. I do recommend a conservative course. Try that first; if you want to go beyond my recommendations, at least do so from a baseline of solid operation. Have fun! Bob |

Put up a flag pole antenna and show how patriotic you are! Flags are accepted now. Get some pvc pipe in schedule 40 that fits over an Antron antenna. Bury the coax and you are on the air. The Antron does not require a ground plane! God Bless America & CB. Amen. |

Re Z and D Z...Dang good idea to put an A-99 in a tree and to paint it to match the tree trunk. However most trailer parks, at least in this area do not have any trees in them. But it is a good idea in principle if they do happen to have a tree that is near by. In fact, is is an fantastic idea for someone who wants to put up a Stealth Antenna System. One thing bothers me though, hmmmm I have never installed an antenna entirely in a tree so I do not know how all those leaves in the Summer will effect the SWR???? D...Unless you have any antenna restrictions (check your lease/rent contract) the A-99 is a white fiberglass vertical antenna with no ground plane. If you want to keep your profile down and it is OK to errect an outdoor antenna just use a pole slightly taller (a foot or two will do) than your trailer. If you wish to check the specs on the A-99 just zip over the the main page of coppers and look under products. Click the CB Antenna button and you will see the antenna listed. OH and PS you might click the send me a catalog from coppers button as well. DE |

What I am using at my house is a 102" whip mounted on my swamp cooler. Although I doubt there are any swamp coolers where you live, the top of your home, if there is any metal on it, could work as a great ground plane. Plus the antenna is only about 1/4" thick and silver so it is very hard to see. A small piece of sheet metal placed around the base of the antenna will work for a ground plane if your roof is not metal. Plus the best fact is that you can buy them at radio shack for 15 dollars and they will last forever and will handle as much power as any sane individual would ever require. good luck to ya! DAN |

Ms. Deja, for the radio, I would suddest the Galaxy 2547 CB base station. It fit's what you want for now. Most of the ham bands you mention will require a seperate radios as well. I say stay base CB only because because it plugs in the wall and will get you on the air faster. Also, the Galaxy 2547 is 100% legal FCC approved which might help keep you out of future problems or possible disputes with your neighbors. It has many features that are desireable including meters and sideband as well (sideband can go a long way barefoot). If you need extra "power", try a Asatic D104 handheld microphone (my preference anyway). Good clear audio without distortion. I believe the 2547 has a meter that reads modulation som you can set it at 100% (or preferably a little less). Overmodulation causes TVI, or disturbances with neighbors TV's. Do not run any amps or your neighbors will probably know as well. Antenna??? hmmm....it will be the most important item of all to transmit and receive. Without a fair antenna your system will perform marginal at best. I would investigate what you can get away with. If cash is tough, an A99 is cheap. Have a little more cash? a IMAX 2000 or Maco 5/8 is better. Both are taller (around 24ft) whereas most 1/2 waves (A99) run around 19ft. If you can get it up any altitude, the ground plane kit might help reduce interference also. Although antenna makes the most difference, do not cheat yourself on crappy coax. Better coax means less signal loss (more signal strength, less problems for neighbors). All of what I mentioned can be purchased from Copper Electronics. Hopefully I've helped. I do not claim to be an expert but have been real successful in studying my options and building a nice local/long distance talking base setup. I hope to assist you in avoiding mistakes and save you cash in the proccess. (Alsworld disclaimer - I do not own the Galaxy or have tried it, but by the numbers and features would be by far the CB base I would purchase. No intent to misrepresent the facts). Alsworld |
