For me it has always the thril of seeing how far my radio can go, and mostly the friendship, and kindness that comes back out of my radio from people |

...with cb it is the ability to talk via radio to JOHN DOE public, whether to let him know of a wreck up ahead, or just general conversation, on many various channels---plus being a channel 9 monitor between roughly midnight and 6 am ........in amateur radio it is for the general conversation that can be done without being interrupted by a rude operator on 2 meters and 440 Mhz..also am involved heavily in a "weather watch " system here in northern Alabama, trying to provide info on hail and heavy rain that the radar systems can not "see" every time ( a storm spotter)..so I guess i have the best of two worlds ( cb & ham )..with NO plans to upgrade, just staying a "no-code tech" ..some of the local amateur operators DO "chastise" me for operating a cb base and mobile, but it is worth it to keep a cb, even if just for the 5 - 15 minutes a YEAR that I hear some good out of it ( can not get a lot of wreck info out of a 2 meter radio. but you can out of a couple of truckers )....BIG FOOT |

Being a "homebody" of sorts, I enjoy it because it gives me a way to talk to people I would never have to meet, but be a little more personal than a chat room. The radioheads who are local to me are, for lack of a better term, "good-ol'-boys", but are still good people and are friendly as can be. Sure, you can run into some knuckleheads out there, but it's like that in every walk of life.
That's just the AM side of things. When I go park on the river's edge and DX, it's fascinating to me to see how far across this vast country of ours that I can reach on a barefoot radio. Lots of good people, all with a common interest in one of the best hobbies in the world!

IMHO ham is too "formal" for a guy like me that likes to joke around and just goof off on the radio from time to time. At least thats what i do on AM on SSB i take things quite a bit more serious. But i dunno...... Ham is not really for me.. Im just not the Ham type i guess. Then if you are a ham and they know you are also talking CB they make a big issue out of it. I -DONT- want that!!!! So i think for now ill stay a CBer..... |

10 years ago I sold most of my radio equiptment, no base just kept two of my mobiles. In January of this year I was very ill and almost did not make it. I finally came home 4 weeks later from the hospital and was sitting here bored with TV and video games and said too my wife it is time for me to get back into radio fulltime. I made some calls and within two day's Iwas all set up with a base again. I found out some of the people I talked to before either got out of radio or had passed on, now it was a whole new ballgame for me. Found some of my old friends and have made many new ones in the past 7 months. CB radio has been a part of my life for the past 30 years, I enjoy the people I talk to and being able to help people out when I can.
I once again have two families, my wife and kids and my cb family. Life is a wonderful thing, radio has made my recovery easier and much more enjoyable.
Thank's to all my Cb friends, I am back and very happy to be!

I think it is just plain cool beans that you can communicate over a large distance without wires, plus the technological side of it is cool. And the ability to help out people too. Maybe when the sunspots simmer down a bit, and the manufacturers do something with signal processing it will catch on again with the general public. I think that more people would enjoy it if they new what they could do with it. Back when there used to be more than 2 people who used it in my town, we would sit out in the prairie and drink beer and rag chew with like 30-some-odd folks and drink beer and just enjoy the night. It's just some non-regulated, non-taxed (yet) fun, try to find that anywhere else! |

Well up here in Maine, CB dies out in the summer. But the fall and winter do bring the folks back on. What else can you do when the snow is falling. And around here, the skip drops out at night, so you can talk a long way, and here how the snow is towns away. And I talk to the local PW guys, who run CB's as well as city radios. It's just a great hobby.
As for summertime, well the skip is bad, but then shooting skip is always fun as well.
Bottom line, friendship is the best thing about CB. People just love to talk the cold/warm nights away. And so do I! |

Two words, Beautyful Females....
When you talk to a female over radio be it ham or CB you have to take it that they look like they say they look. If they say they look like Britney or J Lopez or some other good looking female then you just gotta take their world for it.
A mike does not convey pictures very well ;-).

Before Bruce and company jumps in and says how about slow scal TV, well ol bean sometime the good healthy imaginaton is superior to reality if ya get my drift. Or in otherwords your wife/gal pal cannot slug ya for what you think--just do not smile too too much. :-O ;-) |
