I remeber seeing a faceplate and all the controls on ebay in mint condition. I think they were even NOS. I thought about buying the whole thing just for something like this but I didn't. I wish that I would have because it sold for right around $50 or so. It even included the 2 meters and the freq counter. Great buy but I couldn't see getting it as I don't even own a 2000. I've always wanted one but the funds are a little short these days. I havn't seen any on ebay since and that was probably a year ago or more. Good luck...Eddie |

Cobra Communications Inc. was spun off from the former parent corporation "B&K Dynascan" around '92 or so. Management of the "Cobra Division" did a leveraged buyout from B&K, meaning they borrowed the money to buy the division and make an independent company of it. They dropped their high-quality (high-cost) supplier Uniden and hired a lower bidder. Their prices stayed the same, and this was what made all those loan payments. They knew it would take people a while to notice the drop in product quality, while they laughed all the way to the bank. The production quality of their stuff has improved steadily since then, but it took almost 10 years. And yeah, they were still in Chicago, last I remember. 73 |
