In a post below it was mentioned that many hams do not buy big priced radios. This is true but the reason primarily is due to maritals status and children. It takes a lot of green to feed, cloth etc a family.

So a what if question, WHAT IF you won the powerball lotto and you could buy any thing at all you ever wanted in radio equipment, antennas, the works. If you had a blank check what would your "Dream Station" consits of? Remember you can think rrreeeaaalllyyy big on this one.

I will start it off....

As an Amateur Radio op I would buy that big new Yaesu FT 1000 they just came out with. It has a 100 watts of output so you can run an amp with it without cutting back on power. A max legal amp of course would follow. A good antenna tuner. Of course A 200 foot tower, tip over model, to which I would attach a triband beam, a full size 40 meter beam pulleys and ropes at the top to yank up wire antennas and of course a UHF and VHF beam somewhere as well. Coax, heck no. I would use low low loss heliax for everything.

If you have dream station the feel free to indulge your every life dream. Build it like ya want. And of course you must buy at least a little something from our good host at coppers.

My coppers choice would be an emergency 10 meter radio but one of those nice rack mount jobs.

well, I would take more than just one radio.

I would take 2 laser 500's (the origionals) at 108 feet with several radios. Probly 1000mp and 2990, 2980, saturn, saturn turbo, my melaka, and I would want hardline, and a nice 100kw amp. run a nice 20kw carrier and use a studio audio equipment, use some mixers and what not. capabillity to run flat and verticle. How would I power this in a remote area? I would live next to a river and get my power from the current, and have many many solar panels with several wind mills to get power from the air.

Well,if it was me I'd go ahead and get my mess right and get into to ham probally.I'd love to have a President Lincon along with a 2950.Find me
like bruce said ONE HECK OF A BEAM and find a
1klw amp.Thats just for AM thought hehe.I'd love to have one of those recievers that covers just about all of AM and FM so if I wasn't in the mood for talkin I could listen to the frequences my other radio's couldn't pick up.For 2meter ham (whenever I finally get in it)I haven't quite desided on it yet but theres Icoms I believe it was that I was lookin at.I'd also have a couple of HF radios.

... get a yeasu ft'847 and a 2 meter beam and a 440 beam and a tiltable rotor and try to talk on the satellites for amateur use...also get a 3 - element 6 meter beam for ssb use on 50.125...possible buy myself a 220 Mhz repeater system and a few 220 Mhz radios ( aint it grand that most scanners will NOT recieve 220 Mhz ?? )...for cb use I would buy at least 2 extra MACO v 5/8 base antennas and a 40 - 50 foot pushup pole....radios for cb would be an antique black face johnson with channel 9 crystals in it ONLY... a COBRA 2002 gtl base ( no extra channels in it ) for ssb use on 36 - 40 ... no amplifiers, nothing illegal... and put the rest of the money in the bank ( no stock market...too much unpredictability in it )...for mobile I would have a simple UNIDEN pc - 122 am/ssb mobile and a k-40 magnet mount antenna... for amateur mobile weould have a alinco dr-610 mobile with an "untenna" next to the k-40....put the rest in the bank...BIG FOOT

I would have a 'wall' of older classic 40 channel radios. One of most models made. Also, a custom 40 foot boom antenna with about 14 elements for 16.5 dBi gain (20 db in CB ratings). Oh, a life size picture in the radio shack of Jacky Gleason shouting 'YOUR NOTHING BUT A BLABBER MOUTH'.
