Just curious to know who all has one of those dern Galaxy bases...I've got a 2517 and I love it! I wouldn't trade it for a truck-load of Cobra's & for 11 meter they are the Cadillac of bases. |

RCI 2990 here! Basically a galaxy turbo clone. Not a bad radio. Talks great and has great ears to boot! I also own a Cobra 2000, a 142GTL and a Uniden Madison and like them too for local chit chat!! |

Better audio, better receiver, more features, more channels, more modes. Cobra 2000's always sound tinny and high-pitched, and weak. (at least all the ones I hear) This could be because they've all been hacked up so much. The only thing I like about them is the looks and styling. |

Highlander, Keep listening for me (WMC-397, the Harpoonman) on 27.475 LSB, especially on weekends. I think my Cobra 2000 will be at least one exception to being tinny, high-pitched or weak. Granted, it won't compete in terms of audio quality and most other features with radios from ICOM, Yaesu, Kenwood and maybe even RCI and some Galaxies, but if the Cobra 2000 is operating properly, and if one has the right microphone and operating techniques, the 2000 GTL can sound very nice, IMHO. 73 Harpoonman |

Harpoonman, You're right, I'm sure. It's just that once they have been in a few hands, they never seem right. |

Hello ALL, I am new and thought I'd jump in. I recently bought a Galaxy Melaka and a I-Max 2000 antenna. I am hoping to work some decent DX as well as get around locally. Can anyone suggest what frequency using FM mode I might find some traffic? Dave |

FM? Well not really. Most 11 meter (CB) DX occurs on SSB or AM. Try channel 38 LSB or 37 USB or LSB. 27.555 USB is good for international skip too. Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |

I have a DX 2547. Got it for x-mas. First CB since the late 70's. I hooked it to an Army Big Stick mounted to the eve on my house. I had a contact north of L.A. which is 1,100 miles from my house in Grand Junction, Colorado. |

I guess I must be to old fashion, still running my old Tram d-201a can go and tune to just about anywhere,as for a mic d-104,with avery clean maverick 250,and yes blow most of the radios away. Nothing sounds as good as an old tube unit if it is run correctly not missed tuned. Will try a new galaxy base in the near future, have a mobile unit and it seems to do very well. 73's midnight |

RCI 2990 here and a Ranger AR 3500 100 watter. the 3500 will actually outtalk the 2990 hands down on SSB but the 2990 is set up to talk mainly AM. 200+ watts swing on AM with a 30 watt carrier MAX! AR 3500 is about the same on AM but it SCREAMS on SSB!!!!!!!!!!! here soon ill have a vintage radio to mess with. Browning MK-3 with a siltronics mod 90 VFO and a 776 and a banana mike! |
