I started collecting 40 channels radios usually about perfect or NIB. For example, I have base & mobile RCA Co-Pilots, Robyn 520D, Midland, President, GE, Channel Master, etc. Anyone else collect the large CBs in this era? And, what do you consider collectable CBs from this era? |

Collecting old cb radios from the 70's crazy is a fun hobby! I've been keeping my eyes out for the older ones especially on ebay but if you get into ebay, make sure you read if it's a radio that's actually working. I bought an old royce 23 channel and the seller specified that it was in "good" condition but didn't specify that it didn't work at all. It was only $6.00 so I didn't complain too much but yeah, I've been kind of searching for older cb's like royce, hy-gain, lafeyette's....etc. I really don't care what the audio is like on the older radio's but as long as they're working. I found a hy-gain hy-range 4, 23 channel that's brand spankin' new and still in the box. So, yeah, there's still a few of us that are looking for the "oldies but goodies". One good thing about ebay is you can type in the search engine under cb radio's and type in "vintage" and see what pops up. There's quite a few on there!!!!!!!

Collecting is fun for many years i restored old radios collins halicrafters and national were my favorets. I bought a large number of cb radios just before the ban when everyone was dumping them for 1-5 dollars and at one point had more than 50 sitting in boxes in my garage. Also while in high school i had a few sets i bought at lafeyette in jamaca New York these cb sets were bought new i just finshed restoring a HE-15 I bought in 63 and a HE-20c I bought in 65 both now work They sat in boxes for 30 years and realy did well although i wish they had made them so that chassies did not deterate as much. I gave away a box with several dozen hygains ect in it and pitched a bunch more since i no longer used them for 10 meters althought i kept a few for later projects most 23 channel radios are junk and thats sad but a fact. If one is collecting to have one or because it brings back memories why not your right look on e-bay lots of things out there like Mr peanut jars yep collectible too. Tis what you like some people collect match book covers or christmas seals or stamps or even pet rocks.

Most 23 channel radios are junk???? I disagree. The browning radios are actually collectotrs items and some bring more than 1K on Ebay! Collectibles yes? Junk? Heck NOOOOOOOOOOOO!! |

HOOSIER MOST 23 CHANNEL RADIOS ARE JUNK HELLO!!!!!
now i got the floor lissen there were hunderds of types of 23's produced. There were brownings and trams and others that were nicely made and good stuff NOW 2 things happened ONE the DEALERS DID NOT WANT 7,000,000 23 as used radios while they were selling 40's TWO the FACT is most were junk. The PROBLEM WAS THE FCC MADE NO EFFORD TO SEPERATE THEM SO ALL BECAME ILLEAGAL ON JAN 1 1978
Now some hygains and a few others wrer already accepted as 40 and could be " remanufactured " but they were very few. So the fact remains UNLESS the radio had a waver as a 40 ch chassies it cannot be used on the air .... Again i didn't have anything to do with this all gripes have to go to the fcc. Now one final comment i dont think the FCC EVER thought even 10 years down the road much less 25 that ANY of these radios would even be working

I only have one cb now (cobra 29 stock) but the older 40 channels cb's are fun to look for. I had a Panasonic 3050 that only had vol & squ. but it had a big meter and worked well. I have also had Midland's and GE's. But I like the old Royce. If you find a Royce 639 buy it ,it has all the bells and whistles 73's |

Guys i know there is a love of older radios both by hams and cb users BUT lets get real In the early 60 when cb radio was comming in the realy sets like the he-15 worked. They had poor recivers and transmitters that if your lucky got 3 watts out. Many of the radios of this time were simular in design and when only a few thousand people were on cb it didn't matter. The next generation of radios the early solid state stuff was much better crystal plexer and not too bad even today however little care was given to TVI problems and out of band mixing products again no one cared. The PRE-BAN cb sets almost all had PLL chips and IF the manufactures/dealers had not put so much pressure on the FCC to change the type acceptance rules and NOT grandfather them chances are they would still been allowed today. Now junk radios are not only confinded to cb alot of the older ham rigs the 6 meter am junk is bad realy bad the transmitters would eat up tv's blocks away now they must be much cleaner but there no one on 6 am so mute point. The FCC dosnt realy care unless they come out and find you useing a older set then it would just be another non-type accepted radio just like a linear.

I had a royce 23 mobile. A low end affair but it was pretty good.
Being you mentioned Royce then how on earth could you miss the PACE 1000B Sidetalk. I have one and it still works.

no dont just throw them 2510,s away thats pollution and they dont have a curb side p/u for recycling radios yet so i tell you what ill recycle them for you free of charge just box them up and mail them to my house and ill take care of that for you ok.hehe

Last i heard a HR-2510 was leagal ????? I could play that game with the RCI-2950 too.
As for Royce i had several with the vertical boards and tuna can PLL transmit wise they were ok reciver wise YUCK, Poor reciver not well thought out. Finaly there is no doubt this was a manufacture inspired move with some techinal reasioning but in on way did the FCC EVER think they would even be around now. |

I bought a mint Courier Centurion 40 with a black D104 for $150 WED NIGHT ON EBAY. Bought a CPI Digicam 100 tonight in excellent condition on eBay for $51. Looking for the following: Tram D-300, Uniden Madison, Teaberry Stalker XX, and Pearce Simpson Super Bengal MKII. I think the older CBs are nicer looking over the newer radios, but looks is only ones opinion. |

shucks a pawn shop in DECATUR alabama trying to sell a H R 2510 for $245 as of FRIDAY afternoon, with NO mounting bracket, or the "speaker plug " at back of unit...just radio & mic for $245.00...is that kind of HIGH for that kind of radio, or is it cheap ??...also trying to sell PALOMAR 225 amplifiers for $325...aint that kind of high, too ? Well, I dont know how much a 2510 would be worth but $325 for a Pal 225 ???? PALEEEEZ! I wouldn't pay more than a hundred bucks for a new one or $50 for a used one. |

Saw a robyn 520D with a matching Robyn power desk mike at a swap shop once. had a price tag of 350.00!!!! I asked the shop owners if theyd go down on the price they said NO WAY! I walked out the door. |
