I saw a Robyn desk mike at a freinds yard sale today and i just about bought the mike with the radio. It was on an old Royce 23 channel but i just wanted the mike. The guy said hed see what the people will take for the radio mike and another old radio a Johnson 250 50th anniversary edition for one sum. I did end up buying a moonraker 4 beam complete for 50.00 though so i guess i did ok!

The first order of business is to clean that bad boy beam up. Get some fine steel wool and polish up the aluminum, replace the rusted bolts with stainless hardware and check out the gamma match to see if someone did not burn it out (replace if they did).

As to the mike, if the mike element has bit the dust you can get some very nice mike elements from Heil (see their web page) as replacement elements.

Im gonna get that beam fixed up though. I already have a MR 4 up on my tower but what id like to do is build a MR 6 from the parts ive acumulated. All i need to do now is find another moonraker and use the parts from that one plus the boom to make my MR 6 boom. I know what im doing here with the antenna deal (ive rebuilt several beams and omnis over the years so i know what im doing) so i dont really need any further help on the antenna subject, TY very much. I konw the mike does work because thats what my friend told me i guess he hooked it up and talked to a few guys on it one night. I think ill pass though because i got a turner plus 3 coming off of Ebay complete with box papers and all....

Aluminum will oxidize as fast as you polish it,don't waste your time. Some antennas use an anodized finish for long term protection,my pdl-II does, hit that with steel wool and it will be black in two weeks. It depends on the pollution in the air,we have an iron works and a cement plant close by.

The cement plant is in Charlevoix,Mi.pop.5000,iron works is in East Jordan,Mi.pop 2200,both about 15 miles away from me my town has a pop. of 1500,I'd say those are small towns. The biggest town in 200 miles is Traverse City pop.15,000.
