Hi - I am getting a new Maco 5/8 wave antenna and I have a question about setting the SWR. I am running a 2980 with a Palomar Skipper 300 tube amp and have inline a good TVI filter using LMR-400. I am using a RS (A-99 clone) now and want to set up the new antenna correct. When I have just the SWR meter connected my SWR is flat around the band. When I have everything inline it goes to 1.2 to 1.3 around the band. I am talking regular 40 channel CB. When I put up the new antenna should I tune it with just the meter connected and get the swr flat or should I have everything inline and tune from that point. I know things change the SWR but I am not sure if everything inline is making the meter read wrong. MY QUESTION IS SHOULD I TUNE THE NEW ANTENNA WITH JUST THE SWR METER INLINE OR WITH EVERYTHING ELSE CONNECTED... THANKS, COBRA IN NEW ORLEANS... |

Anything below 1.5 just take it and smile. Truly and not being ugly about it, if you knew how small the loss is you would be quite proud of a 1.3 or even a 1.7 SWR. Try not to get caught up in the "Numbers Game". The important question is do they hear you clearly? |

a 1.3 swr is not gonna hurt any thing, but I do understand your desire for a 1.1 swr across the regular 40 channel band....perfection is a much-desired item for most of us...as long as it is below a 1.5 or so, you possibly will never notice the difference in who you hear or how far you will get out...I have a MACO v - 5/8 antenna too and it is definately something to be proud of....(( HAVING FUN with my radios whether listening or transmitting )) BIG FOOT |
