Just purchased a new Midland and for the first time I ran it to the battery. Used a cig. adapter before with other radios. Any how, I am receiving some serious static from the engine; however, when I turn the car off, reception is very clear. I'm about to go back to the cig. adapter. Any suggestions?

What kinda car is it and what AWG wire are you using? You may need to use heavier wire and or a good noise filter.

filter capacitor the higher the farad value
the better it will filter out the noise.

i use a 1 farad cap inline with the power cord from the battery to feed all radio equipment and get 0 vehical noise.

What kind of noises. High pitch variable whine. Or is it more like a popping sound.

Woa back up there bullet....

You used one whole farad?????? A farad is a pretty large value. Don't you mean the valuation should be in the Mf or Pf.

no i said it right 1 farad.

i use a 1 farad stiffening capacitor the same one the car sterio guy's use in their high performance car audio systems. ive found it to serve a dual purpose.
1st it works great for filtering electrical noises "i drive a ford truck enuff said"lol. 2nd it works great for instant supply of power for the radio-n-amplifier system just as it was designed for in car audio.

.5 farade is good for a 500 watt system 1 farad for a 1000 watts 2 for 2000 ect. i could run 2 farads caps with my amp but i dont use it enuff anymore to warant doing so.
inside my 2950's i install a 4700mf 35volt cap at the dc power inlet to the rig to help filter as well.
