Hey Guys, Still lurking in the shadows and have installed my Galaxy DX 959 from Coppers(peeked and tuned) and have experienced alot of engine noise. I have a chassy ground and ran a power wire(#10 stranded) to the battery. I then installed a 20 amp noise filter from that Shack place (lol) which reduced the noise some what. I am wondering if you can run two filters in series or should I shoot for some type of sheilded cable. This is a 2001 Chevrolet 2500HD with the 6.0 liter engine and I use the Wilson 5000 Mag antenna. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Doug
p.s. The radio will talk!!! sounds good and the stock speaker doesn't seem to be a problem either, its just background noise. |

Yes, you can run 2 filters at the same time in seires. I have about 9 of them on a couple of my phones in the house and it doesnt bother it at all. Is that 6.0 engine a deisel? If so then it sure cant be ignition noise could it? If it is a gas engine then you might want to start eliminating posibilities such as a ground loop. Try grounding the return wire of the radio to different places or even try a diferent V+ .Sounds like a good system though. I use a wilson 5000 myself...Eddie |

First of all, where do you have the ant. mounted?
Second, run the negative wire to the bat. also.
Those new vehicles are notorious for fuel pump noise. I have been told by a tech friend of mine that putting a filter inline with the fuel pump will help. Just a few things to try. Hope this helps.... |

Thanks for responding. This is a gas engine (6.0 liter) and the truck has a service bed on it with a full metal shell which is about seven feet from the gound. The Wilson mag is on the top front of this shell. I have an excellent ground plane or atleast thats what I think its called. (no need for a pie pan. lol) I will add a second noise filter in the power line and run the ground to the battery as well. I will keep you posted of the progress. Thanks, Doug |

I run the DX 959 also and bought a Magnum power line filter that works great.
One end will plug into the power port on the radio and the other ends [both pos. and neg.] are bare wire that you can attach any connectors you wish. The leads are long enough to reach the battery.
I second the idea that both leads must be hooked directly to the battery. The battery acts as a filter itself. Not RF but for general electrical flow.
I know that with one filter and hooked directly to the battery your setup will work.

if you want to really kill that engine noise
go out and buy one of those car audio .5 to 1 farade capacitors run one inline to your radio and listed to the stations clearly.
this is much much more effective than those junky noise filters |
