I have a BC 9000 xlt. Seems like a pretty nice scanner. My friend gave it to me, he said he used it for about 2 weeks and put it back in the box. Too many buttons for him I guess. Anyways, what is a good scanner antenna that would cover a wide range and not be too big. My wife hates the 99 on the roof now, she would shoot me if I put something big up there. Eddie |

Have you tried a mobile scanner antenna mounted on the gutter of the house in the back yard area or on the back side of the chimney facing the back yard? It is true that it may not be as good as a proper installation but it is better than the telescopic or rubber duckie antenna.
ALSO you might try the TV antenna. Make a temporary connection to the scanner to see if it gives you better coverage. If it does get the adaptors as appropriate and make it work.
ALSO you might try that CB antenna for the lower frequencies of the 40-50 mhz. As before make a temporary test connection to try it out and if it works it time for a trip to get adaptors.
There is no law that says you have to mount the standard commercial scanner base antenna on a metal pole. If you have a tree in your back yard you can always hang or mount the antenna in the tree. The leaves will act as camoflage. All you have to do is snake the coax down the tree and bury the coax to the house.
Just look around the old domestic homestead for anything already in place that can be used as an antenna for your scanner, anything metal that you can connect to. How about that metal gutter around your house? Any alluminum screens on the windows? Metal window frames? Even metal curtain rods? Look around, check it out with temporary connections and if it helpes, then be creative.
Remember you are only attempting to receive a signal not transmit one.

...bearcat/uniden 9000 x l t ?? top of th line from those folks a few years ago, 500 memory channels, channel count ( keep you informed of how many times up to 99 that they do transmit )... auto-store in search is programmable in it... fine oout standing unit (( only thing it does NOT have is a " s - meter ", which you can use a transciever for whatever band the frequency is on for a signal report )).... emjoy it, have fun with it... Thanks guys. Anything would more than likely be alot better than what I have now. I have a set of rabbit ears hooked up to the gutter and believe it or not, it works pretty darn good. |

I think for $39.95, or smething close to that. These Antennas work well, but are not very well
made I have rebuilt mine to be bulletproof, using new and better aluminum tubing.
Maybe you can put it in the attic without setting
off bad feelings in the domistic world?!?!?!?
