Could someone tell how or the best way to tune my Varmint amplifiers? I don't want to wear the tubes down! xl-250 and 450. thanks in advance!

This is in hopes you have an external meter and a 1.5 or less swr....
Turn amp on for 5min. key mike (no audio) adjust load for max carrier. Wait 30 sec. Key again adjust tune for max carrier. Wait 30 sec. Key mike and adjust load while saying "aawwwwww" for max forward output. Wait 30 sec. Do the same for the tune. When you're done see what your forward power is (power output when saying "aawww"). let's say it's 300w. You don't want your carrier to be more than 100w or 1/3 of what your peak is, if it is turn your radios carrier down until it is preferrably at 1/4 of the peak.
If you need more help email me.

A Varmint XL-150 and above(Brewer Labs, Porter OK), can be tuned for minimum plate current/highest output rather than just maxing it out to full output, for increased tube lifespan.
