everyone always says you are not complying with fcc rules,(cause i run power) so! there is at least 88% of the people running power that talk on the regular am channels.even if people stoped running power all together it would not help condtions on the air.there will still be lots of skip and multiplecation on beams and high db ratings on antennas would still cause problems people dont like so no matter what conditions will always be the same.so i wish they would stop crying.

How do they know you are running power? I'm sure you are a good operator,Not over modulated,Transmiting a nice clean signal, running the correct biased amp for the mode you are using so your not distorted or bleeding over to another freq & only using enough power to make the trip to the station you are talking to, So....How do they know that you just don't have a awesome antenna set up? Are you telling them your running power? Unless you are telling them your running power...there must be another reason folks are complaining.Explain.

Without getting into too much detail, yes and no.

Explanation follows....

Power per say does not mean too much. All things being equal, if you are running just for example sake say 250. Someone hears you at a signal at just above noise. That person replies at legal limit of 4 or 12. You will never hear them over the noise. So having power and being heard does not mean that you will hear the person making the reply.

Here is where the yes comes into play. A little extra may help to get over in marginal conditions. But to rely on power is a foolish waste of money. Remember if your antenna is not worth a flip then you can have the best radio on the face of the earth and it will not help you.

It is by far wiser to put money "First" into the antenna (the best you can afford) and then into the push. You cannot talk to when you cannot hear.

....jealousy run in many flavored ways in communications... some are jealous of the equipment ( radio, antenna, amp,,,etc )...some are jealous of who you talk to, or the fact that YOU are on-the-air at all.........some are jealous of the fact that you are able to easily talk with others that they personally can not talk to, or as easily......so some folks are constantly goint to gripe and bellyache at all hours of the day or night ( whether there is any fact to it or not )...... personally I use the VOLUME or channel selector control to keep my speaker silent from the noise from the "cry babies "....or I just stand up and find something constructive to DO, in the shack or out side... no one is forcing me to listen to any thing that I do NOT want to listen to..... for that matter it is here in this forum, too ( if you do not like MY words, scroll up or down to one that suits you better )....( having FUN with my radios ) BIG FOOT

Taz,
I had the same problem with one of my radios. I found out that I was driving it too hard. If you have variable power on your radio, try turning it down and see what happens...Eddie

Well TAZ you're at that age, your voice exibits its full quality out to that distance then starts to lose some of the bassyness, which on ssb can be retrieved by touching up the clarifier.
