Why do truck drivers put there antennas at an angle on there mirrors? I have never figured this out. |

Because when the wind blows them back, it will be more vertical. If they were to leave them straight up, the wind would blow them past vertical and would in turn be bent backwards...Eddie |

All mobile cb antenna's are omni directional however where you place it on your vehicle makes a difference as to which direction your signal goes the strongest, kind of making them semi directional, the only reason I can come up with is that your best performance comes when the cb antenna is straight up and down, most truck drivers lean them forward so that when they are driving down the road, and the wind hits them they will be straight instead of leaning back, only thing is I am not sure what it does for them while they are setting still,,,,lol,,,,

Some drivers do this to prevent the antenna from hitting tree limbs and such! Most of the trucker's I see do this are running 5 foot anteena's and would break them off almost all of the time if they let them straight up and down. Also is the wind factor, my father drove truck for many years and alway's tilted the antenna for this reason! |

1. For the reason mentioned above, so the antenna will be vertical when at highway speed.
2. Because the antenna is too tall to stand straight.
3. Sometimes angling the antenna forward away from the trailer will lower swr.
4. Because it looks like bull horns (looks cool).
5. Because everyone else does it. |

They angle them for looks only. I've seen the heavy coil antenna's angled as well. If they only knew how that was hurting their directional. I've angled mine as well, but then I was educated from a local ham, who's turned out to be a friend now. |

I angel my antena fwd just a bit and ask some one next to me to check if it is straight at 60mph when i'm going down the road I have a cheap fransis and they flex alot(not spending $$$ on any thing thats going to get stolen) to me the big coil ants just make your truck stand out from all the others and invite the low lifes to wait for you to go inside the truck stop to see what radio you have to steal. |
