I'm new at slip seating, and I need some experienced help. I'm looking for antenna recommendations,SWR tips & when it is not a risk to damage my equipment. Also where is agood place to get enough amperage to run a small linear when it is not practical to go to the battery? IN other words.... what works &what does not?Help!!!! |

Take this advice to heart: Radio...Uniden 78, Cobra 29, Superstar 3900, Galaxy 949/959, Cobra 148, Uniden Grant. Amp..... KL60 Antenna....Francis CB24 4' fiberglass Vise grip bracket 18' Mini-8 coax 3-6' Mini-8 coax from radio to amp. Have radio set to 1w carrier, clamp antenna on pass mirror tilted slightly forward or behind cab. Radio and amp will run off of cig plug or banana jacks in truck. All the radios mentioned have swr meters in them. Check swr with AMP OFF. Then with amp on. BAM This works with 99% of slip-seat situations....and works well. |

AS an after thought do the SWR meters built-in to the radio usually give an accurate reading when an amp is in-line? Also has Copper gotten their service dept. up & running & would they be able to perform such a task? Great suggestions by the way! do you think these items would fit in the plastic slipseater box if so, this would really be an awesome set-up very compact. please respond concerning the amp recommendation I really want to be specific on tese items |

Call and ask Copper for the KL60. They do carry it. The swr is fairly accurate in the radios. When the amp is off, you read swr as it is seeing it at the antenna. With the amp on, the swr reading is the match between the radio and amp. Ask Copper if they can set the radio you choose the way you need it. If they cannot, drop me an email. |

Tell me specifically what equipment you're using, power source, and mtg locations. |

Usually, i'm running a superstar 3900 bare foot w/18' mini-8 coax. I normally clamp vise grip onto right mirror brkt. sometimes I clamp it to bar behind cab. As I stated earlier I slip seat So every trip is anew installation , and some days I swap trucks as many as three times in a ten hour shift. I certainly appreciate your recommendations re:small amp for a little more punch , I'll look into re-aligning my radio so it won't overdrive the kl60 I'm planning to order when Copper restocks. |

I seem to recall recommending a 4' Francis antenna. Generally that antenna with 18' of coax will yield a swr around 1.6 or less. If it's higher it's most likely reflecting from something (trailer, exhaust stack), try tilting it forward a bit and see if the swr goes down. Set the 3900 to a 1w carrier for the KL60. You'll get about 10w carrier out and 50 or so peak. You can power the radio and amp together from the posts or lighter of the rig. |
