have a question: has the " economic slowdown " effected sales of amateur. cb , amplifier , antenna in YOUR area ? Are sales of NEW ( or used ) stuff going as well as it did last year or even a couple of years ago ?.... have been told at the local radio shack that all of their sales are DOWN on all kinds of communication stuff ( scanners, cb radios, amateur radios, antennas, etc ) ...but cell phones and computers are holding their own....how is it in YOUR neighborhood ???........... Radio sales have picked up in the last year. For two years prior when gas prices were maintaining constant high and unemployment rising, sales sagged for everyone in the industry. The downslope began around late 99 and began an upturn late in 01.

Radio Shack is way over price in what they sell, they have very poor selection on part's and equipment compared to what they had at one time. Radio sales are down in this part of the country,I live in South East Pennsylvania.

...maybe i need to re-phrase the "radio shack " part...I did NOT mean the "radio shack " store of TANDY corporation that is world wide...I meant the small town radio stores, truck stops, etc... also how fast are USED items being sold ? .......... BIG FOOT

jyd is right. Their website is far better for finding parts and trinkets than the stores. I think their biggest problem is that when, "you have questions, they have no idea what you are talking about."

Back in the 70's you could walk into Rat Shack and pick up a final bubble packed for under $3.00.
of course that ended in the early 80's.....

At a seminole store just in the last month i watch a sales man holding a 2/440 handheld telling a customer why these are much better that FRS and all you have to do is SEND AWAY for a license in the same store less that a week later i watched a guy brow beat a salesman DEMANDING he sell him a BIG cb liner. The poor sales guy was totaly stupid when it came to cb hell all they sell now are c-phones.
After lissing to this baboon for a while i broke in and said that the REASON they didnt have any was the store did not carry illegal idems and amps were not alowed. WELL this jurk blew up at me the sales man let loose with a string of words that i hadnt heard since i hit my hand with a hammer. On the way out capped it off my telling me it was his RIGHT to own one and he would see that radio shack got him one right away. He is still waiting

Bruce, Bruce, Bruce....LOL

I went in to my local Radio Shack yesterday to find three capacitors and one resistor. I struck out on all four!

Today I went there for two germanium diodes. Skunked again!

I am suggesting a new motto for them...You need parts? We can order them!

Another pet peeve (since I am on a rant) I have with them is as soon as you walk in the door the salesmen are on you like white on rice on a paper plate with a glass of milk in a snowstorm!!! They won't leave you alone! And when you're browsing the racks for this or that they stand behind you pretending to dust off they RC cars or something. They watch you like a hawk! I don't look like a criminal. Must be the fact they work on a sales commission or something.

...sounds like my visits for parts there in recent years... got every thing BUT what you need... then when you go back for something else...out of that too but back in stock on the item you wanted 2 weeks ago...........reminds me of why my grandfather did not throw hardly any thing away... if it was thrown away, you or a friend may need a part from it 2 weeks later, even if the item had not been touched in 10 years...( something about a guy named MURPHY and one of his LAWS ).... having fun with my radios BIG FOOT

Here is a trick I've used for years at any store where there are the vulture salespeople: Act like you are deaf!

...MONK ,,, why would a DEAF person be at a RADIO store ? ( just kidding )... since about half of the stuff in a radio shack store has a SPEAKER in it ( tv, scanners, shortwave, cb, amateur, satellite receivers, some computers, am/fm portables, etc. )......by the way, found something even NOISIER than "jake brakes on an 18-wheeler " and that is the local kids with a car stereo... hear them coming and going for a good mile or two BEFORE you see them and AFTER they have passed by ** the occupants of the car are wearing ear plugs so their hearing will NOT be effected ** ( oops) BIG FOOT

Big foot,
I am one of those kids with the big speakers. Accually, I am 31 but I was into the car stereo thing for a while. I had 2-4" kickers, 2-6 1/2" eclipse, 2-6by9 eclpise, and 2 15" kicker subs. For power I had 4 kicker amps that had a total power rating of 1190 watts RMS! Beleive it or not, I had all of this in a standard cab Toyota pickup. I had it checked one time and got a 145.2 db. Thats pretty loud. But, it seems I have lost interest in it and all of this stuff is boxed up and sitting in the closet. Waiting to go on ebay. Its a shame because it all has only been used for about 2 months then I took it back out. CB stuff takes up less space.

..locally I sold about 3k worth of equipment about 2 weeks ago, the GREAT stuff sold extremely easy, but it went to about 4 operators in MISSISSIPPI...the "so-so" stuff stayed LOCAL, but the GREAT stuff sold within 24 hours, and the locals were "upset" ( why did not you save it for me to make payments per week on, once I got my trailer payment made )...but I still have a MAXON h-t in the glove box for "wreck info " ( hard to get wreck info on a 2 meter amateur rig ).....PRAISE the LORD...BIG FOOT
