Well folks, I know of no other way to get some people recognized and show my personal appreciation. I hate to ride the coat tails of Cuddlebear but he's got the right idea so here it is.
First off, thanks to Copper Electronics for not only this forum (a wealth of information!), but for the cheapest prices on the internet and fantastic service.
Also, I want to say thanks to all techs who provide us with technical information, advise, reviews, and support, all done for free/no pay. No where else does this happen. Welcome Tech 671 (officially). Great choice.
Mainly though, I've got two people that deserve some recognition for their "off forum, above and beyond" efforts helping out someone they've never met, me.
Tech 181, I thought my Lincoln was history. Your e-mails and troubleshooting ideas pinpointed the problem, one I had not expected. As I learn more in this hobby, hopefully someday I can help others the way you helped me. This is the second time I've come to you for assistance where you jumped on an instant response and it was correct everytime. A sincere thank you.
Bruce, in the Navy, we would call you a "Sea Daddy". In your terms, you are my "Elmer". Folks, I cannot even count the numer of e-mails Bruce and I worked with concerning a TVI problem. Your experience was invaluable. I owe you an updated e-mail but just to let you know, I now have my doubleshielded low loss coax running and installed. My (unexpected) travels and a problem that Tech 181 helped me with have kept me from taking my Ham test but because of your inspiration, and my utmost respect for you and David, I will get my Ham license. I will never be able to say thank you enough for all of your efforts around your already busy schedule.
If either of you, (or really anyone else on this forum) pass through Pensacola, Florida, give me a hollar and I'll show you the best time I can.
I owe both you guys a beer (or soda for Bruce).

Alan,
You are quite welcome. Hey, thanks for the kind words. I am here to help and it makes ME feel good when I can. I hope that myself and Copper Electronics can keep making contributions to the radio public for years to come. We will.
BTW, do they have Yuengling Lager down there yet?

Thanks for the nice letter i think you know very well my place here is to be of help. Some people go through life never understanding that there are only 2 things you can do with your life .... make the world better or worse. I chose the 1st of thoes and i glad i was of help.

Sorry for bringing up an old post but I've got some worthy updates.
Tech181 - after a lengthy and exhaustive search, I have located Yuengling Lager in Pensacola. After sampling numerous cases during business trips to Maryland and Virginia, I knew the results were important. In stock regular, Black and Tan, and Premium light. Come on down to the emerald coast and we'll put away a few.
Bruce - Got my ticket! Passed the test this morning missing only one question (darn repeater offsets! I always confuse 1.25 & 6M offsets). I felt I wasn't ready for the CW portion so I'll work on that and maybe General too for the next round. I want HF! Thanks again for all your help.

What you mean is LOSE of freedoms!!!! Now if they want the FCC can knock on your door and you cant stop them from comming in!!!!!
They dont even need a warrent!!

We all respect each others views and opinions here, but for crying out loud, enough! Every time someone passes an exam you are right there cutting their legs out from under them.
Yes, we know an amatuer license allows the FCC to inspect your station at will. Yes, we know that licensing is viewed, by some, as restrictive. Yes, we know that big government chips away at personal liberties.
Enjoy your time here, have fun, learn a little, speak out. But ENOUGH of the black helicopter ••••!

the reason I did not post a new thread titled "I got my ticket" was because the last time that was done it ended up being about 135+ responses of arguements. Why? I'll never understand. I work for uncle Sam and they already got one heck of a file on me. From what is in there, a ham ticket is pretty minor. You may not understand this but being I'm in the military, our "freedoms" are much less than joe citizen. You think the FCC is bad??? Let the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) check you out. Well, they can't touch you but for me, typical laws that law enforcement agencies have to abide by, these folks don't being I am Navy. Nope, I don't like it at all but it's just a fact of life I must deal with. I made the choice to be career Navy so I must live with the consequences/restrictions. Although I will protect the Constitution with my life if needed, I don't have as many rites as you do. Sad huh?
As far as "giving up freedoms", man we debated that months ago on this forum. Relook at the thread and you'll see I was there in the midst. I made my own choice and went forward.
Freezerman, as always I welcome your input and opinion, but I'm not about to have the same debate over again. It's a done deal. |
