ANyone have any good pointers or specs on increasing the power on an RCI 2950 to get more swing on the am side? Without cutting the limiter that is!! Just want to get a little more swing and possibly look into replacing the finals in it. And if replacing any finals, which ones are the good ones that are not too strong for the radio. Thanks a bunch!!!!!!

frankly id leave the finals alone, unless they need replaced. and then id go back to the 2312's
thats in it.(maybe a matched pair)

i say this from experiance,

ive installed the big wattage finals(mrf497's)$80 bucks worth, in my 2950 swapped out most all of the tx/audio section with super duty stuff put well over 150 bucks of parts in her including the speach processor and had to make a heavier power cord going in to flow more curent. yea it kicks ass for a 2950 (53-55 watts am)but i could have got much more from a converted/peaked 2970 for about the same money invested.(i did it just to see what they would do full blown) and its not worth the time and money to do again.

my advise is peak and tune it put a mild swing mod in and enjoy it for what it is. it should
do around 25-35 watts

a simple diode installed at r281 will work fine.
just keep modulation down under 100% or youll sound like sh!@ no matter what swing mod you use.
and thier are many for this model.

this is my favorite mobile i have many mods for her but suggest keeping her closer to stock trim minus the freq mods/normal peak-n-tune/mild swing mod. ive learned this from modifying several of these for myself and my friends over the years.

It's cheaper and easier to just add a small amp and leave the radio alone. It usually costs too much to bump up the rf output of the radio, because then you have to also deal with the audio stages in order to modulate the new found power.
