Has anyone switched out the MRF 477 stock transitor to the MRF 497 transitor on the lincoln? I have a new lincoln and I have heard that the upgrade will increase power to 50 watts. Apparently these transitors are becoming rare to find and run about $35. Thanks for the opinions. xlaxx |

xlaxx, There's a better mod using the MRF455. There was a post on this forum that gave the web address to buy the kit. Search for it on the forum. Sorry I can't give you the exact post. Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |

If it is a NEW Lincoln, you probably have an mrf455 final. Mine does, but the schematic still says 477. If you have the 455, don't mess with it! David n9rzf |

Tech181 & Highlander, Thanks for the posts! I have been timid about opening up this radio as there is a warranty sticker on the side of it....AND... I have heard so many good things about this rig that I'm scared to even touch the guts of it less something go boom! Anyway, thanks-xlaxx |

highlander- my lincoln has the 455. i adjusted the rig to do 2.5W deadkey, swings about 40. i want to run a little power but am hesitant about putting in a swing kit on a dual final radio like this one. any recommendations? xlaxx |

I dont run my klv mod351p that hard--more like 1.5 watt dk swing 10-12 seems to like that alot. All I did to mine was open up the AMC a little for 95-100 percent mod. The variable power doesn't seem to do much on sideband, so I just hit the mic gain button to low for ssb with the amp. Worked Hawaii from central ill last weekend and he said I was the best sounding rig on the air at that moment... David n9rzf |

highlander- i adjusted a couple things. the lincoln is a pretty good radio. it dk's 2.5 and swings about 40-45. it's not enough to drive a couple bigger amps i'm using w/o a swing kit. i guess i'm a little surprised because i thought the MRF 455 driver would produce more swing. any other recommendations? thanks xlaxx |

Well, the 455 is the final, not a driver. The Lincolns are single final radios. I think the 455 is rated at 60 watts, so 40-45 is getting alot out of it, actually. David n9rzf |
